Its surprising just how small a million tons of rock/sand looks, the amount of material in the collapse could easily be several million tons. On top of that removing it would be highly dangerous as you would be working in an area that is likely to collapse again on top of you.  |

all jokes aside the poor buggers were about 6 weeks down there before contact , then a few more months waiting for the shaft to be sorted
they have skin rashes etc etc , and mentally must be near the limit
they must know that even now it can all go tits up , a big rock might fall into the shaft , or the cable rubbing in the angled bend in the shaft might cause probs
i shall certainly give a cheer when they start coming out

(don't forget to switch ya cam on though, I gotta see this!)... then after 1/2 of profilic pleasurable playing you'll be 1/2 hour behind on Sky and can zip forward to your heart's content.... and in the years to come whenever the subject of the Chilean miners comes up in conversation you'll be able to say "I had a rampant rabbit stuffed up me jacksy when they were bringing the guys up!" |

There was another shaft drilled shortly after they were found and food & drink was sent down to them. They had some supplies down there as a matter of procedure and they lived in a rescue chamber that was built for the purpose. |

I'm amazed just how well these guys look after 70 DAYS underground. It's almost as though they'd only gone down just the day before.
I have to say that the Chileans have done themselves real proud on this one. So composed, so relaxed, and very professional. Well done, it sure feels good to be human today. |
