You're about to have a cream tea.
Do you put the jam on the scone first, then the cream (which is most obviously the proper and sensible way) or are you the one of those oddballs that puts the cream on first?
And come to think of it, how do you pronounce scone? Is it scone, or scone?
What other important questions do you have for our fellow fabbers? |

"When making tea, milk first or tea first????"
This comes from class system and so called 'breeding' in past...Posher, wealthier people would put milk in last...It is linked to quality of crockery...bone china vs ordinary mugs.
In dodgy doctor parlance in the past, medics would write on case notes that someone was a 'bit MIF', as in 'milk in first', lower class...in much the same way as medics used to write NFN [Normal for Norfolk] if people were seen as 'a bit mad'.
I don't think this sort of thing happens now though! |

"Why are knickers plural?
And trousers are a pair? It's odd.
Two leg bits? Knickers used to be down below the knee in ye olden days "
As in knickerbockers (no glory). I get the two leg bits but it still seems odd.
I think the Scottish had trousers long before the rest of these isles so maybe they have the answer.

You were wrong about butter on a jam and cream scone (what WERE you thinking!? Butter and jam only, yes! Butter and jam AND cream? No way!) but you are spot on sir with your tea making method! So you are forgiven for your buttered cream scone faux pas |

Can't remember the last time I had a scone but it was decades ago.
Don't drink tea that often. Or coffee for that matter - but when I do the milk goes in last.
Don't do Mustard or Mayo.
And it's HP (or even Daddies) on my bacon roll. But then I din't like ketchup anyway. |

Definitely tea first if using teabags as milk molecules block the circulation of water through the teabag |

"What happened to the magic E on the end of scone making the O sounds like oh? "
You mean like the one on gone?
Scone as in gone in my neck of the woods.
Oh and the pair of knickers/trousers thing, at one time each leg was a separate entity that you wore together, hence a pair. If you ever see any of queen Victoria's knicks they are split round the crotch and only joined by being on the same drawstring waistband. |

Clearly there are some deeply twisted individuals out there, mayo on hot dogs, sauce on chips?
What the eff are you people on?
Weirdos the lot of you.
However despite your twisted perversions, there are still rules to be observed.
Thus;
Tomato ketchup MUST be Heinz.
Mayonnaise MUST be Hellman's. (Please note there is no such product as "mayo")
Tea MUST be Typhoo.
Mustard MUST be Colemans. English of course, none of that french muck.
Baked beans MUST be Heinz. No reduced salt or beans with sausages abhorations.
Sugar MUST be Tate and Lyle.
Biscuits MUST be digestives. Please note these may be dunked however chocolate hob nobs are and acceptable substitute.
These are the rules folks, you know it to be the truth.
Amen.

In truth tea is time specific, twinings breakfast tea is acceptable, however only at breakfast.
It is not acceptable during elevenses. Also and related, there is no such thing as brunch.
There is breakfast. And there is lunch.
Any break between breakfast and lunch is the aforementioned elevenses.

Whilst on the subject of right and proper, cars must be right hand drive and we must drive on the left.
The only acceptable exceptions to the rule (UK) are Italian exotics or American muscle cars.
Or whilst "abroad" experiencing some poncy "culture" and broadening your "horizons". (The country known affectionately as cheese eating surrender monkeys should be avoided at all costs)
Brie? What the eff is that all about? Cheddar for all!!!!!!
What's wrong with bognor or margate people? It was good enough for grandad it's good enough for you.

I normally try to take a liberal, middle of road, none dogmatic approach to threads and peoples choices but you have to draw the line somewhere.
I've been totally stunned by some of the completely wrong headed and out right wrong things said by people on here.
How could any one possibly believe that it's OK to put jam on before cream on your scone, which clearly is more like gone than stone.
Milk in after tea? What the eff you on about and anyone who makes their tea in a mug rather than a pot.... come the revolution you people will first up against my wall; bloody traitors all of you. Don't be bloody daft. It's only Tea if it's a cup of tea, possibly with cucumber and cress sandwiches but nothing else.
Any one with any breading would know it's
Breakfast (never after 11)
Lunch (never before 12 or after 3)
Tea (only between 3 and 4 and optional)
Dinner (any time after 2 but becomes Lunch if between 2 and 3 and the Tea option is taken)
Supper (always after 5 and always last meal of the day. If Dinner is after Tea this can also be supper but the option is still open to have a late night supper after an early evening or afternoon Dinner)
It's simple really.! |
