Do you make ALL your guests eat veggie??

Or do you cook a meat AND a veggie version.

Oh - and you as the cook is also not veggie.....

(not only is she a veggie but she dont eat mushrooms or feta cheese....so again cutting down supplies, lol)

my friend is a veggie and when she has dinner parties she does all veggie meals but they are so fantastic you dont miss the meat (my Austrian ex would beg to differ but they dont know what veggies are )

on the flip side my dad is a carnivore but relishes people who are veggie coming to stay and goes to town making veggie dishes

i am thinking do both - the last dinner i wasnt the cook, and we all ate veggie - but there was only 3 of us that time, there is 5 this time.

And i think its a bit harsh to MAKE people eat veggie if they wouldnt otherwise.

I dont mind at all, but dont want to impose on my guests.

For ease of cooking, having a dish that can cater for both would be ideal, something like a pasta bake.

A stir-fry would work too. One with meat and one without.

Good luck!

Depends what you're cooking.

My youngest is a vegetarian, her sister and I aren't. If I do a spag bol, lasagne etc I use Quorn mince. Plenty of herbs, spices can hardly tell the difference.

Starters can be anything from a variety of soups, butternut squash is good. Stuffed vegetables also make good starters and have a meet dish with vegetarian alternative.

As long as meet eaters taste blood sometime during the evening, plenty of booze and there you go!

Am hoping at this time of year i can get a pumpkin too- (more veggies) but at least seasonal?????

You could do individual cheese and tomato tarts for starters. Squares of puff pastry, sliced tomatos and grated cheese a drizzle of olive oil 20 mins in oven and hey presto!

I was getting hastle from vegetarians and vegans in my shop so I had all my stock vetted and now have a big 'Vegan Society' vinyl on my shop door....ie all my stock is Vegetarian/Vegan.

Funnily enough even though they made me bloody angry with their pushiness about the stuff I sold with all their questions, by becoming 'Vegan friendly' I have attracted a whole new group of customers I may not have before.

Personally i would dish up, pluck the meat out and the vegetarian would be non the wiser. If they are currently drinking bear or larger they are drinking a product that is made with animal bi products so there is little difference if you look at it like that.

"I have never had to cater for picky veggie before - and the sight of meat isnt pleasant for her!!!

"

The sight of meat?

Sorry, that's ridiculous, childish and selfish. I'm all for people having preferences - and principles - but this sounds like the behaviour of a control freak. How does one avoid the sight of meat? Tesco's has a rotisserie, a deli counter, 3 aisles of raw meat and a fish counter. Try avoiding all that and your diet is down to chewing gum and batteries!

If I'm cooking for a group, they all get the same choice. Eat or don't. Bowl of meat, bowl of potatoes, bowl of salad. Everyone help themselves.

The discussion about herbivorous humans is for another thread...*cough*incisors*cough*

my x was veggie

never really thought about when people came for meals as it was always a meal choice where the meat dish went with the veggie and the veggie dish could stand alone

its all about the menu choice and how tastie the veggie dish is, i find more and more people enjoying the veggie and less of the meat being eaten

if you would like a few ideas drop me an email

I used to do a vegetarian chilli using lentils etc. and a meat one, my meat eating friends used to dive into the veggy one!

Also used to do a cassoulet with either a leg of lamb/pork/confit duck legs cooked separately with toulouse sausage and bacon and we all enjoyed that too.... obviously the vegetarian among us wouldn't eat the meat we just added that later to the bean stew.

Warming and hearty with a green salad or mixed root vegetables and hunks of crusty bread. xxx

Try doing a really good veggie dish for everyone. Sometimes a meat free evening makes a change and it doesn't do you any harm while leaving everyone happy.

How about goats cheese and red onion tarts for starters, lots of peeps like that, even though its veggie, followed by ratatouille and either lamb or a veggie option and spuds of some description. Puds are rarely meat of fish based so shouldn't be too hard lol

to avoid hurting the sensitivities of veggie peeps but a burka on the meat. If you also have vegans present you will have to utilise additional burkas for such things as animal sourced cheese, eggs, and whathaveyou.

Unfortunately this may have an adverse effect on the overall "look" of your stylish banquet.
