This is just a rant and not intended to offend anybody guys.

At work tonight a woman (she doesn't work for us but an agency so comes sometimes) started making some very offensive remarks about gays and lesbians.

She said she wouldn't eat at a restaurant if she thought any of the chefs were gay, she takes her own cup cutlery and plate everywhere because she doesn't know what sexuality people are at different jobs, and most offensive to me, she started going on about how in her country they shoot gays and lesbians, and there families and pets.

I got really annoyed and said I have lots of family and friends that are bi and gay and she talked over me repeating about them being shot and comparing them to rapists and paedos.

I think I did well to keep my dignity and walk away instead of knocking her bigoted teeth down her throat don't you?

Rant over xx

If she tries talking like that round brighton the skinheads will be round her house sprucing the place up a bit. You can't fix hate with hate, you did well not to chin her.

Perhaps you could get her agency to send her on a long and boring course about tolerance.

I recommend not even speaking with this woman again. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but sometime hate speech is hate speech, and saying that gays and lesbians should be shot is hate speech.

"Gay and lesbian" is just a tag that people use to label people

At the end of the day we are all just sexual beings whatever the preference

A guys ass can please a cock the same as a woman's ass, same rule for mouth hand and all the rest

Unfortunately history teaches us that those who "made the rules" didn't like sex with the same sex and so the story goes.....

Each to their own I say

Really annoys me when people come to this country and start complaining about it.

Used to work with a Nigerian who constantly went on about how great his country is and how awful this one is.

Eventually asked I asked him if his country was so great why did he come over here to pay for a university education? And if this country is so bad why doesn't he fuck off back to his own as he'd finished his uni course ages ago.

He shut up after that and soon disappeared. Apparently his visa had expired.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to report her to my Manager when he comes in tomorrow. I honestly believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions but it made me feel sick hearing this.

I do not believe that you could change that person's (or simialr poeple's) mind or even open their eyes to the offensive comments they have made hence any conversation with them about the subject matter is a waste of breath.

I would report this to HR as it constitues hate speech as mentioned by another poster!

If Ginger had made a comment about this persons colour, race or country then the woman would have found it offensive. Why should it be any different because of someones sexuality especially when comments were made about a co-worker from the same agency. The comments made were akin to hate and as such constitute a crime. Lucky this woman wasn't directing the comments that gays should be shot to anyone otherwise she could be arrested and charged.

Her rant started about how people a're dirty and took a weird twist when she said 'and I don't know anybody's sexuality either' which is why my boss asked if she would drink from a cup if a lesbian had. And then she started.

I made sure my Manager knows if he doesn't do anything about it I'll be taking it higher. He didn't look happy cos it means paperwork but fuck it lol x

I agree. She is here and working, for now, so should assume that those responsible have made the appropriate checks. She has been made welcome and should extend that acceptance to all members of our country.

Bigotry is distasteful and has no place in our world. Too many lives have been lost or damaged because of it.

I wasn't meaning anything racist in my post. It was her words when she says 'back home' meaning jamaica. I don't endorse hate of any kind wether it's gender race sexuality or any other forms of discrimination x"

Jamaica??? Wtf they don't kill whole families and pets for being gay lol I thought you was referring to one of those countries were being gay is illegal and you could be sentence to death this puts a whole different spin on the argument

(Strong Jamaica background so I'm not just talking blindly)

Ask her what she does when she takes her own plate to the restaurant, does she wait for her meal to be brought out then transfer the food from the plate it's served on onto her own plate or give them her plate to take to the kitchen for the food to be served on her own plate?

Tell her weird shit like that will guaranty her food is spunked in. Think of it though you're working in a restaurant and somebody makes a fuss and asks to use their own plate, when that plate comes into the kitchen they'd lick it and fart on it and then put the food on.

Tbh I'd just assume they had some mental health issues and accommodate them.

Not like it's taking any extra effort on my part.

Unless they go into why they want thier own plate because they arnt sure the waiter is gay that would get it wiped down thw crack

You're aware that people can be from a different country but the same race right?

You might want to look up racism as it doesn't mean what you think it means.

That's entirely different circumstances. My comment was aimed at the OP. If someone told me they wouldn't eat at a restaurant incase of gays and took their own cup, cutlery and plate just incase any gays were working there the first thing I would have said would be what I said in my original comment. Give her some food for thought and realise her taking her own plate to avoid a gay touching anything she's going to eat from is stupid because whatever happens even her own plate will get touched, even the fucking food would have been prepared by a possible gay so I would have mentioned that too.

Not talking about every single scenario that would require someone taking their own plate to a restaurant. Just talking about the nonsense spouted by the woman the op was referring to. Jesus why do people have to blow everything out of proportion!

"This is just a rant and not intended to offend anybody guys.

Personally i would report her to your boss, that kind of attitude shows why this country is still a dangerous place for people to go out and socialise and be safe, i dread to think what her thoughts or beliefs are on Transgender people

Without getting into homophobic or race/nationality issues, the thing to do is report to whoever in your workplace is overseeing her at the time she works there. They should then inform her agency. They could insist she is never sent back.

my team leader/line Manager was there when it was all said and tried to diffuse the situation by humour. This morning I spoke to her and said I was making a report about it she said I should if I found her comments offensive. She admits that because of her culture she doesn't agree with homosexuality but she doesn't force her opinion on others. I think that's why she didn't realise how bad the comments really were until she realised how angry I was and it clicked.

The lady in question is due back on wednesday and supposed to be working with me and an agency lady who is gay and proud and wouldn't hesitate to knock seven bells out of her if she starts so I might have to be referee lol

I've never met a homophobic black person myself (that I know of anyway) - but the evangelical movement in African countries is enormous.

White evangelicals from the US have been actively working with the Ugandan authorities to implement their anti-gay laws. I'm sure there are other examples.

I think Jamaica is a mix of evangelism and machismo.

And to be fair, to suggest a single person "goes back home" is hardly racist. Calling for an entire group of immigrants to go back home, because of a presumed set of unacceptable values placed on said immigrants, is. This is one woman, not an entire race or nationality.

I got really annoyed and said I have lots of family and friends that are bi and gay and she talked over me repeating about them being shot and comparing them to rapists and paedos.

I think I did well to keep my dignity and walk away instead of knocking her bigoted teeth down her throat don't you?

Rant over xx"

Bet she was Jamaican. How I managed to keep a straight face when my hairdresser and her clientele were talking about the proposed changes in the homosexual laws in Jamaica. If they knew I was a "sodomite" I'd be barred and they'd incinerate the coffee cup I used!

Jamaica??? Wtf they don't kill whole families and pets for being gay lol I thought you was referring to one of those countries were being gay is illegal and you could be sentence to death this puts a whole different spin on the argument

(Strong Jamaica background so I'm not just talking blindly)"

Yet I assumed straight away she was Jamaican even though I knew the pet killing was a lie but I've heard the comments. My cousin went on a Channel Four programme about gays and lesbians by way of telling the family. This was early 90s. When my uncle died in 2011 she was not invited to the funeral, the family still hadn't got over the "shame".

Another cousin is gay, Stevie Wonder would spot it, his parents keep wondering when he's going to get a girlfriend!

Just watched that last night ( with my kids). They were horrified at peoples attitudes. That was encouraging. The creepiest ones were the evangelical arm of the orthodox church. When he asked them what they would do to a gay person, they said they would stone them, "just like in the bible". He should have asked them what Jesus would have done. Worth it just to see their brains implode.

I'd set her up, next time she works there have a colleague bring up her hate of homesexuals to get her going.

Was her rant prompted in anyway?

Someone in your company needs a wake-up call!

Contact Citizens Advice, Stonewall and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance and tell them what has happened and ask for their advice.

Stonewall are probably your best bet.

I somehow doubt that your HR department realize they have broken the law by refusing to act when someone working for them has preached hate against gays and threatening the person who reported the hate speech.

You should also ask the GMP Gay and Lesbian team for advice, the team holds an advice surgery at the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, 5 Richmond Street, Manchester, every first and third Thursday each month.

Please don't let your company sweep this under the carpet and let this person continue spreading their vile beliefs.

Tomorrow is the 3rd Thursday in the month...

Go see the police in the gay village show them the facebook update...

The crime is your supervisors and the woman who made the gay hate statements , make them to have to take ownership of their homophobia and force your company to deal with both of them.

Defo agree with that. That is WAY unprofessional to put statuses on Facebook. Can't believe the line manager is doing that. also defo agree to take snapshots etc. The more proof you get the better.

Surly this situation can be dealt with internally.

The company I work for would find something like this on Facebook as a disiplinary action.
