What sort? Benefits? Drawbacks? Couldn't get on with it?

I wouldn't call it meditating.
But I regularly zone out in the bath with the ipod on and the light off.
Very stress relieving!

I do but we don't meditate where I do it. We do laugh a lot though. It's also about to end and I need to find what I will do next.

I have my own version that I find very relaxing. I came to it after trying a variety of methods. I had to learn about kundalini meditation after a spontaneous awakening. |

I meditate. I use mindfulness meditation.
Recommend it highly.
Can be done sitting quietly or during activity. Its about being in the moment.
And if its done sitting quietly and youre thoughts keep invading, you accept them and bring your attention back to 'stillness'
This is kind of the point of it. Reminding yourself, you are not your thoughts. You exist above your thoughts. Your thoughts come and go. You are training your mind not to be pulled into your brain's flighty, temporary fancies. |

Just where I need to be. |
I started meditation about 18 months ago. Very hard at the beginning. I wanted to calm the inner me and quieten my mind. Still rears its ugly head when I get stressed. To actually sit and clear your mind is very hard, but it does come. There are plenty of tips out there for beginners. Just do the best you can every day, and then let it go!
At moment I am back to twice a day, early morning and evening as I am supporting a family member in crisis and I could recognise in myself that I needed to relax and let the stress out. |

I'm going to a Buddhist talk on meditation tomorrow as part of my exploration and preparation.

yes tend to do that more than chant as it does seem less intrusive, don't look at the actual light no..

I tried that once before but it didn't work for me. I am in a different mental and spiritual place now though so meditation might work this time.

I nodded off during the lecture on living fearlessly and using meditation!
During the practice meditation my wild elephant mind jumped to Christmas crackers and then to cheese. I may need to work a bit harder at clearing my mind. |
