A word I'm reading very frequently these days, but I'm curious as to how those who consider themselves sapiophiles identify with the attraction?
I myself most certainly value intelligence in a woman, but I wouldn't consider it alone to be the basis of my sexual/emotional attraction toward women who happen to be intelligent, what do other people think? Does a persons intelligence really have a similar, raw sexual effect upon you comparable to how a more typical person may become aroused by the sight of a barely dressed woman with a hot figure, or a well toned male with his shirt unbuttoned? Basically think of a genuine 'phwooooaaarrr!!!' reaction lol - or is it simply a quality that you find deeply appealing in a person, as I do, yet I wouldn't define myself as a sapiophile? |

"Does a persons intelligence really have a similar, raw sexual effect "
It does to me.
They need to be able to get inside my head for sure and turn me on.
Obviously they still need to be hot ..but not thick as fuck either.
I mean, I'm no Einstein that's for sure but certain things do it for me more than others.
That's one of them. Defo. |

Intelligence is as important, if not more important to me than looks.
I am more likely to be attracted to a clever guy, who isn't that good looking, than a not-too-bright guy with model looks.
But just as looks in a photo aren't the be all and end all - it's the way they smile, move and speak, intelligence is also influenced by personality.
So shove me in whatever box you want, but I don't know what I'd put on the label. |

I would agree, I'm drawn towards sexual interlect, a woman that has interlectual qualities beats the photo of the sexiest hot looking girl everytime! Hahahahahaha |

Of course its a massive question, it's the science of attraction, a question pondered by some of the greatest human minds since the dawn of man
I ask simply because everyone is single at some point in their life, and also aware of the fact that they're going to die someday. Everyone alive today is the product of an unbroken chain of DNA successfully reproducing since the dawn of time, somehow successfully overcoming every single threat, predator, virus and disaster over billions of years JUST long enough to pass itself along to another generation, and yet, should you die having failed to reproduce, that chain ends with you...
Hence why the science of attraction, learning to understand it's nature and how to best work with it, has long been such an essential part of human existence.
And why I wanna know what makes a person hot |

Exactly, I recall I used to work in an office and there were two ladies there, one was considered 'hot' and the other 'not'. One day the 'not' had a group of guys around her laughing and listening to her every word. 'Hot' asked why when she was better looking and one guy said 'because she's got character'. He didn't have to add 'and you don't.'
Indeed. "

I'm asking these questions in the interest of creating an intelligent and thought provoking debate. Indeed some people with a higher degree of emotional understanding may already possess an innate sense of knowledge when it comes to attraction, and I'm interested in further my own knowledge of these rules as someone who perhaps doesn't have that same, favourable software. |

The people I've spoken to who have "sapiosexual" on their profiles have all been beyond tedious. Mainly because it has nothing to do with intelligence but more the current hipster trend for trying to give yourself the most obscure label.

Yes, it's always going the be a mix of traits unless you are into the real fetish area where someone might have almost an obsession with intelligence....
I would not call myself a sapiophile per se, and yet there is something within me that does a little exited dance when I come across a sharp mind that wants to connect with me, especially accompanied by a witty playfulness. There is so little in life which stretches my mind, so yes, it is exciting.

I like intelligence as one of many factors that attract me to someone. I don't personally like the term sapiophile since to me it seems elitist. I have known many intelligent people who never saw themselves as such because they weren't necessarily academic. The reverse is true and I used to tone down my vocabulary use, for example, to seem less of a brainy nerd since people haven't always reacted well to it. Nowadays though I am comfortable enough in myself to not ever bother pretending to be something I'm not. |

Must admit to finding intelligence a sexual turn on, but if I'm honest (go on try it!) there has to be a physical attraction to start with (even a slight one) - otherwise would you look??

Literally everything around you is almost beyond comprehension with its complexity.
Look at a piece of wood that part of your coffee table lines of structures grown to resist great forces and bear weight but not only that to be able to convey over the course of a day hundreds of kg of water and sugars up and down without the aid of a mechanical pump.
Heck the most complex organism on earth is right there with you every minute or the day, every pulsing vein, every quivering hair everything serving a purpose and working without oversight, the most advanced computational device ever known sits between your ears and you can't think of anything to do with it? |

I didn't say that, I said there was little in my life that stretched it right now. I had a creative career, and did some good veterinary research. Problem solving and studying to gain understanding can be engaging of course, especially if there is a real motivation.
But I still find an exciting interaction more ...... exciting, and yes, sometimes more challenging and stretching!!
Maybe I am sapiophile after all.... |

Extant knowledge in itself does not stretch my mind. If I needed to understand quantum mechanics then I'm sure it would challenge me, but I don't, so I am only motivated to study it in enough depth to satisfy a mild curiosity. Spiritual questions can be very engaging too, I went there in great depth for many years - but regardless, I still say that another MIND is the most stimulating thing on the planet. |

I need to be able to have an intelligent conversation with someone before and after some great sex. He may be the best looking Neanderthal in the room, but at some point, my attention is going to wander towards the guy with the ok body and the razor-sharp intellect and wit. My ideal guy would have a great body, nice tats (all spelt correctly!) and a brain the size of a planet. |

Well, our wolfy friend has not replied so I don't know what he means, but an interactive 'dance' with a really agile mind that can challenge me is a real trip in my book.
Also you have at your fingertips right now the sum of all knowledge and written works of man kind.
Every book, every play, every one of the Bhor - Einstein debates and mind experiments.
All just a Google away.
Extant knowledge in itself does not stretch my mind. If I needed to understand quantum mechanics then I'm sure it would challenge me, but I don't, so I am only motivated to study it in enough depth to satisfy a mild curiosity. Spiritual questions can be very engaging too, I went there in great depth for many years - but regardless, I still say that another MIND is the most stimulating thing on the planet." ooo Yer do turn me on when Yer use big words |

i find intelligence a turn on, there are several guys who post regularly that are out of my age range or area, or maybe initially not my cup of tea looks wise, but im attracted/drawn to them because of what they say/how they say it.
I would rather meet an itellegent but average looking guy, than a dim adonis.
I will also go through the logistical nightmare of arranging a meet with a guy a would normally dismiss as too far away, if he can arouse my mind aswell as my body, but I dont feel the need to label my preferences.x |

I must be reading the wrong things if sapiophile is a word people are reading often these days.. but then I'm not on many other sites (PoF or anything like that).
I do know what I do like though. Kittens. Lickle cuddly fluffy kittens.
Anyway, when it comes to on here I'm not really bothered about the intelligence (or not) of the people I hope to meet as long as they're clean and friendly.
In terms of a long time partner though it makes sense to me to seek someone of similar intelligence to yourself - otherwise over time your conversations are going to be on different wavelengths to each other. Therefore whilst it might be intriguing to meet someone exceptionally intelligent and a lot more clever than me, I can't see the longevity of the relationship. |

Turning the thread on its head just briefly (sorry!) what I really don't get in this country is our tendency to celebrate stupidity.
Making the likes of Jade Goody and Joey Essex multi-millionaire celebs on the basis of nothing else except they're thick as sh*t (or at least act as though they are ).
It's got to the point that I see teenagers etc playing dumb because they think it makes them look 'cute'. No it doesn't - it makes you look like a total twat!
Anyway rant over (sorry it's the wrong day, ranting is on a Thursday isn't it?) - as you were ... |
