Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

It's the Boat Race and the Grand National tomorrow.

For the first time women will be allowed to race the same Boat Race course as the men. How exciting!

I love watching both the Boat Race and the Grand National (I know the horse racing arguments). The National was on of those things that my whole family would watch together when I was growing up. I started watching the Boat Race after I left home and no one in my family is particularly interested (although one friend will be on the end of the phone if we're not able to watch it together).

It's a busy afternoon in front of the telly tomorrow.

Are these still big national events or are both elite sporting events that mean little to people today?

I think culturally Britain would become a poorer place if events like this faded into obscurity ,,,,

i love all sport and women in sport, especially horse racing! great news for women rowers hope they do well and best if luck to Nina Carberry tomorrow in the narional she really could be the first woman to win it! she has already won over the national fences on thurs and has a grade 1 horse to ride.

not being "white knight" but a woman also finished 4th in that same race nina won but never got a mention. But i do support women in sport we have some fantastic athletes but like football it is male dominated and it's all abt the money!

I haven't placed a bet but my virtual money is on Nina Carberry.

I'm still deciding on which of the Blues to support tomorrow.

I've just realised they are on at the same time. I'm going to have to record the Boat Race or pick it up towards the end.

Our National Treasure, Clare Balding, will probably favour the National.

She has her own series starting now.

Just in case anyone wants to join in with the second verse next time:

Thy choicest gifts in store

On her be pleased to pour,

Long may she reign.

May she defend our laws,

And ever give us cause,

To sing with heart and voice,

God save the Queen.

Although that's not the second verse but the third and we never mention the sixth verse!

Almost time for the first Women's Boat Race on the same course, on the same day. All the better for the national treasure that is Clare Balding to see us through.

I have to go Oxford for the women's race.

I concur.

I feel all emotional that we're finally able to a Women's Boat Race. Daft that it has taken so long.

They are stroking almost exactly the same after a sloppy start. This is going to be close.

Cambridge would be quicker walking along the bank.

A great race day for Oxford with a double win in the offing.

How could I forget the Marathon? I must remember to change my route to the lecture I am going to that morning.

You need your specs adjusting. The shades of blue get interesting some years.

Don't forget the Melrose Rugby 7s, won by Glasgow Warriors (again) this year.
