totally self indulgent 'go me' thread!!
Jump to: Newest in thread
and i make no apologies for it!!!
today was my 50th parkrun which is a big milestone....means i get a free t-shirt
but is it free? apart from the P&P yes it is in terms of money but what has it cost me?
well for starters it has cost me my Saturday morning lie ins....and i used to love those haha even if i am not running i will be volunteering to make sure that the event keeps running. It relies on people giving up their time to marshall and fill other key roles each and every week.
It has possibly cost me some friends who got bored of me banging on about what a great thing parkrun is but you know what, thats no big loss really is it?
i have run a total 155.5 miles just at parkruns....thats a long way!!
It has cost me money in terms of entry fees for other races because once you get this damn bug a parkrun is just not enough!! last year i ran 1 5k for sport relief, a local 2 mile fun run, a 2 mile relay race, and 2 10k's!! so far this year i have signed up for a colour run, an 8.5 mile race, and 2 10k's with another possibly in the line up!!
However, all of this is nothing compared to what i have gained. I have gained confidence (i was so scared when i turned up for my first time!), i have gained self esteem, i have gained belief in myself but most importantly i have gained some amazing friends. people who are so supportive of me and anyone who wants to get out there and run.
People who wait in the cold and the rain for me to finish when they could be in the warm getting a coffee. They never moan and are always waiting with smiles and words of encouragement that mean so much.
Sorry, getting a bit soppy over a run round the woods aren't i haha |

Evie This is an amazing feat .. You must be very proud and rightly so..
My daughter and her BF started running in parkruns a couple of years ago. They have done amazingly well and now progressed to marathons and so far one ultra. they travel every weekend to a new place. He is fast and she plods along at the back each race bettering her time by 5 mins ..It means such alot.
they too have left friends behind that are not interested but they have made far more at each run they do , As you will.
So glad you have found something which will help you stay fit and give you huge pleasure.
Well done xx |

Go you Evie.
It sounds like you've achieved something you never thought you would do, which you have every right to be incredibly proud of, and it's all for a good cause, it's people like you that are making a difference to the lives of those affected by illness and diseases.
I'm proud of you x |

I have enormous respect for you and anyone who commits to something like this and sees it through. I doubt I've run that far in my entire adult life.
Well done, huge achievement you should be proud |

You're an inspiration Evie. I always encourage slower runners and hang around to clap them in. I rab a half last week and started 10 minutes late and was totally humbled by some of the people I passed.
And you are right the running community is one of the most supportive and inclusive I've ever been involved in |

Once again parkrun has proven what a wonderfully inclusive and supportive community it is!
Today was Worcester parkrun's 4th birthday and so they gave out some awards. One of the was 'parkrun inspiration' and you'll never guess who won it......me!!!!
It was such a shock when they called my name out. I am so honoured that they think of me like that. I am very humbled! |

Absolutely fantastic. You should be rightly proud of yourself and your achievements.
I know the buzz you can get from running and the support of those fantastic people who cheer you on.
Brilliant exercise and out doors. As some one who loves being out in all weathers too.
Well done you keep it up and never stop having fun |
