Seems Conservaties want a new regulator to enforce age contrils with adult websites checking a form of id before granting access

That may cut down on some of the fakes.... and probably other members too....

It wouldn't bother us, but some are "paranoid" (rightly or wrongly) about having their details stolen or mis-used.

Access to porn needs some sort of regulation but quite a few 14 year olds will know where mum and dad keep their passport.

It is rather worrying how easy it is to access porn. All you have to do is type in x and a small furry rodent and you are staring at a constant stream of filth. We think it would be ever so easy for little johnny to be looking for information on his pet hamster and suddenly be presented with grunting and groaning adults.

It's not that good a system we have in place is it.

I think 'passport' was being used figuratively but what do I know. Will they take pension books ?

No it's not great but it's also not hard to set a computer up to block access, parents have to take responsibility.

No it isn't. I think that presenting some id would help but not stop it.

would more than likely require you to register a credit card to prove your over eighteen . with all the i.d. ramifications that entails

I appreciate that children need to be protected, but it strikes me as just another step towards big brother. .....the amount of monitoring and information about people that is now available due to the internet and computerised government systems is worrying.

That sounds more likely. Still lots of kids know where the credit cards are too. About ten years ago a friend's son ran up a big bill on his mum's card watching paid for porn. I had to laugh when she told him it would have been cheaper to hire a hooked

The adult industry have been asking this for years along with credit card entry, as well as childrens safety it also does away with the free porn sites that the kids watch.

Most responsible webmasters use credit card entry anyway as its only the pirate tube sites that flaunt the law.

Swinging sites for obvious reasons will be included in the new rules at sometime but at present it will only be film VOD sites,

The porn industry do want it regulated as their income must of plummeted thanks to the net, criminals would like to see cigarettes banned too.

It honestly up to people to restrict access on their computers at home, the only legislation I would bring in would be for open network such as the Cloud, I'd imagine most do anyway.

Yep.

Assuming it's a one time registration? Provide card details. Once registered? Cancel card via reporting lost. Easy.

And before anyone suggests potential embarrassment when they ask if said registration is genuine? I couldn't give a shit what someone I've never (and never will) met in a call centre thousands of miles away thinks.

this idea was banded about by the tory's 18 months ago and sod all happened but now theres an election coming up soon and they can't think of anything new to say so they have dragged this out and rebranded it as a new policy

Yes the porn industry welcome the new changes with open arms, the government couldn't be bothered about the illegal tube sites pirating peoples material...if its music they are up in arms.

We fetched the safety for children idea in as it kills two birds with one stone, once the government had this idea in their head it then becomes an important factor in vote points.

think it would be difficult to police, as prev post, getting other peoples passport, cards or a 18 yr old mate doing it for them, when i bought a dongle i had to have it open to allow 18 plus sites, some of the kids today are that good online one would find a way round it

Yet if parents use something like OpenDNS, they can activate parental controls quite easily.

Or if home broadband routers came with decent firmware that allowed easy configuration of such services.

Or, as I suggested in an open letter to ICAAN ten years ago, they create an XXX top level domain and all adult content goes in that (as far a possible) and the hosting companies sign up to a charter as such.

Or just not use the Internet as a babysitter and stick the pc in the living room or something.

ATVOD & the government will eventually block all adult sites on our internet, broadband providers will block any adult site not ATVOD registered.

The sites registered will be credit card entry and hardcore material films pics will be in line with UK BBFC regulations.

It can't come fast enough for the legal side of the industry, even AW is conforming to the new regs already.

This won't make the damndest bit of difference to kids seeing porn on the internet sadly. I agree something needs to be done to stop kids seeing porn on the web but the net's just too big. Kids are very very clever when it comes to these things. It won't take the one's that want to see it long to fish out a few porn sites that are hidden away somewhere. May stop the kids that aren't interested from just stumbling upon it though.

The broadband companies will do the blocking like they do in China and some of the Muslim countries.

Nice idea. And I did use proper monitoring software to protect my kids when they were younger on pc. But nothing available is that good for phones or tablets.

And everyone will just use proxy sites and VPNs.

Censorship is NOT a substitute for responsible parenting or responsible provision of internet.

OpenDNS when used on Wi-Fi and wired networks is pretty good, but you have to configure the router to issue the DNS server address and not the ISPs. This is what annoys me about Virgin Broadband as their router firmware on the routers they supply does not allow the DNS addresses to be changed from Virgins own.

The industry was quite happy to use the new .xxx domains until they learnt it would be easy to block them in various countries, we all bought a xxx domain then watched domain companies then raise the price by ten fold.

Fab is as much porn as any other adult site, like Adult Work all sex pics / nude etc would have to be moved to a credit card entry place in the site to stop minors viewing them.

I don't watch porn anyway. If adding passport identification to security works, then do it.

I don't have a credit card and I'd be wary of giving my passport details online. Children would still be playing 18 rated console games, maybe not online if they have to register a credit card, but still have graphic images and language available

That would be the logical solution. Swingers sites should show some responsibility anyway in my opinion. Page 3 level only unless you can verify your age.
