Gonna try this for the first time. Sitting on a bed of onions in a bisto gravy, will be using red wine too, might even add some to the gravy.
Was wondering if anyone had any other tips? |

It will be lovely especially if cooked for about 8 hours! Use a decent bit of meat too.... Not brisket!
Works with pork too.... Perfect pulled pork or beef!! Home made bbq sauce and put in wraps!! Lovely!!! |

Don't use bisto, the joint of beef will create enough natural juices, as for the other comment, a good joint of beef is wasted in a slow cooker in my experience, brisket or shin is ideal due to the fat content enabling longer cooking times whilst still keeping the meat tender |

I have don't the pulled pork before, absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for replies, tomatoes sounds good too. Take beef out when cooked and mash contents then sieve gravy. |

I thought that the bisto with the juices will thicken perfectly? |

dont over do the liquid as it doesent reduce or thicken so you will end up with piss thin gravy
make a cornflour thickener to taste do NOT use gravy granules as they will just over power the rest of the flavours oh and fine chop a clove of garlic and add it to the onions |

I put a joint in with a bit of water and onions. Have done it with red wine but I felt the need took on too much of the flavour and took away the beefiness.... Just onion and water mmmmmm
Bought a lovely bit of beef from shit corner this morning... And some stewing steak.... Mmmmmm beef bourginoin |

Add tomato ketchup sounds yucky but gives it a nice flavour L

I have a slow cooker but have never tried it for anything but caseroles . I follow a couple of forums on FB and some things look great and some awful.
I suppose a gammon or pulled pork would be nice but roast beef is my very favourite meal with roast taters and veges..for me oven cook only .
let us know if you were pleased with the outcome. |

Slow cookers were seriously made for cheaper cuts of meat ..bags of flavour and long slow cooking time is ideal ..eg ..brisket of beef, shoulder of pork ..chicken thighs. ..shoulder of lamb all totally delicious !!! .. |

I would stick with a bed of onion, carrots and celery. Dash of wine maybe but not the tomatoes. Shallots would be nice too. I would brown the beef in a frying pan first in oil to seal it. |

I was going to seal the meet first, but, silly question, does this not stop the juices from coming out, or just a lot of them? Sorry for ignorance but this is why I gave asked. Thanks to all for the advice and I will let you know how it goes. |

The juices will still come out yes but for some reason the flavour is more intense |

Sorry had to interrupt, disregard anything this person says about cooking, brisket is the tastiest meat there is, slow cooker perfect, forget the bisto you don't need it, if you slow cook, you don't need it period.
