We had a can of Rightgaurd deodorant explode in our caravan a few days ago blowing out the window & causing major damage to the bedroom.
We contacted the manufacturer who told us to go back to the shop which was Icelands, we told them there might be a faulty batch which might be sold to holiday makers/locals this weekend and was told its nothing to do with them.
On contacting the makers again they said no one is in for at least another week due to holiday...this is a major mutli million pound company we are talking about lol.
They wanted the can (the bits left of it) & offered to pick it straight up in person, amazingly there are no staff able to deal with the problem but they would send someone down to pick up the can.
We called Trading Standards who told us because of the holiday they couldn't do anything...well until we told them the problem, we then got head office who wanted the batch number etc and said this was an high risk case because if it exploded in the hands of a person or the hull of a plane it could cause serious damage.
Don't buy any £1 tins of Rightgaurd guys just in case...rant over lol. |

In some cases there have been reports of fake goods being sold. This could be one and Trading Standards should investigate either way. Yes the holiday will delay matters, but they should still have taken the details. I do know what I'm talking about as I worked in TS for 24 years. |

Yes the company that makes the product is one of the biggest of its kind in the world but didn't even want to help us until they knew TS was wanted investigators involved straight away, TS will look at the damage / the remains of the can etc then the company can have the bits.
It would have killed someone if they were in the room with it at the time, it wasn't in direct sun or near heating so not sure what the fuck happened. |

"It made my flesh crawl at the thought of what it could do in your luggage on a flight - two downed Malaysia planes come to mind "
Thats why TS acted quickly wanting its batch number as thousands of cans will have to be recalled straight away, the way it blew up it could have made an hole in a plane. |

"Yes it was lucky no one was hurt, it was rented out to a young family with a 4yr old kid at the time, with no second bedroom for the forcible future we won't be renting it it out. "
can I ask if you were there or the family with the kid? |

Yes they were chatting to us as we had just been called over about a blocked sink, we heard a big bang opened the door & see the smoke & thought someone had chucked something through the window.
I wouldn't have believed it if we hadn't witnessed it ourselves. |

"Give yourself a black eye & put in a compo claim
As long as they replace the bedroom & furniture & recall the tins we would be happy with that."
They should do that considering how you've escalated the matter now. Might take a while though...good luck with it all fella |

"Had the can been left by a heat source ??
No next to the bed out of direct sun & no other source of heat e.g. heater, lights etc." That was my first thought, but of it was in a cool space then no reason to explode. You would loose fingers or worse if it was in your hand. |

"Perhaps time to switch from spray to roll on?
I said this to Kim lol"
I wanted a new deodorant. The shopkeeper said "Ball or aerosol ? "
I said neither it's for under my armpits. |

Disgusting that they weren't interested until TS got involved. Lucky everyone is ok. |
