There are lots of germs in raw bacon , including tape worms and hepititis E , I would not recommend rubbing it anywhere .

Is that right? My ex's mum would eat raw sausages like frubes....just push the meat out of the skin and wolf it down...she was 50 odd when I knew her and she'd been doing it since she was a kid....never an issue.

I myself used to love my bacon raw, ate it that way for years....again, never an issue.....hmmm.

Never an issue "yet" there are lots of medical papers on it , I hope you and your ex's mum have built up an immunity to it , BUT if you did get an underlying illness would you even think to blame your raw meat ?

There is a body builder who is famous for eating raw chicken , his body is immune to it , yet for most of us we know you are dicing with danger if you go there .

"There are lots of germs in raw bacon , including tape worms and hepititis E , I would not recommend rubbing it anywhere . "

Hepatitis E is typically contracted from contaminated water, blood products or from mother to foetus; it may arise from ingestion of meat from infected animals but the risk is greater from vegetables and fruit that have been cultivated or washed in contaminated water.

It's usually a self-limiting illness lasting 4 - 6 weeks but can cause fulminant liver failure in some individuals.

Pork tapeworms do exist but are predominately found in less developed areas of the world and where animal slaughtering is not subject to veterinary inspection.

Bacon manufacturing involves brining and, usually, boiling or smoking. The resultant product is, usually, cooked so the risk is of heart disease, hypertension, carcinoma and diabetes due to the presence of high quantities of sodium from the brining process, and nitrates (converted to nitrosamine in the body which has a positive association with gastric and oesophageal carcinoma; it's also present in smoked and barbecued foods).

Anyway, the risk of Hepatitis E and pork tapeworms is approaching null in the UK; I would be less inclined to eat bacon in less developed countries.

"

Chicken tatare is a speciality in Hiroshima; the chickens are organic and free-range and the meat is very carefully prepared.

Putting things into context, beef carcasses have an approximate 0.1 - 0.3% risk of contamination with E. coli O157:H7 and that doesn't put me off steak tatare, which also includes raw egg, sushi or other raw seafood.

It's all to do with risk stratification and trusting the restaurant and chef.

Infection with salmonella from raw chicken can lead to a carrier state where the individual remains well but can infect others if they contaminate via the faeco-oral route.

Distract them with bacon jam, available in supermarkets and delicatessens.

"

So always wash your hands after having a poo "

Sensible advice that doesn't appear to be heeded by quite a number of men who use the cubicles in public toilets, and the reason I use a paper napkin to pull the entrance door open rather than contaminate my washed hands; yes, they get washed before and after I take a piss.

I have no idea about what women get up to regarding hand washing but some men have no idea, at all, about hygiene.

Clacton-On-Sea, Essex

Going to ignore all the toilet hygiene posts and go right ahead to mentioning that everyone should make a bacon weave/lattice and wrap it around their Easter leg of lamb.

For dinner tonight we had roasted leg of lamb wrapped in bacon all woven together and then roasted on a bed of root veggies - it was absolutely delicious and tender and totally worth any hand washing that will occur in the morning from over eating =P
