England will lose again. Too many foreign players in the premier division to develop English players. We have a chance against Gibraltar and the Faroe Isles though.

I agree in part- there are too many mediocre foreign players but for the good English players playing in teams with or against the quality foreign players it can only be better for their development.

I've never understood the too many foreigners argument, if a English player is good enough he will get picked, foreign player's or not, or would you rather the premiership and England national side be full of mediocre players who scrape through because there English?

Successive Spurs managers preferred so called proven international talent to Harry Kane for 3 years, loaning him out to various clubs and not giving him a chance until Sherwood put some faith in youth. In today's win at all costs short termist Premier League, many managers take the same approach. How many more young English players are missing out because coaches are so worried about their own jobs that they aren't willing to take a risk and back some of our young talent over a period of games?

On the flip side of that could you argue the experience Kane gained going out on loan in lower leagues did him better than being thrown in at the deep end?

Loan spells are great, think Beckham at Preston, Terry at Forest and recently Jordan Ibe at Derby. But at some point a manager has to have the balls to say I think he is good enough and give the player a run of games.

Harry Kane a good player , not great , not world class. England and the premiership is ruled by Rupert Murdoch, he owns most of what we read and see its in his interest to hype up players so we subscribe to his tv . We will never be a top international until we remove results and except performance

We need a big club to self promote English players (think Liverpool in 70s) and then start other teams bringing through home grown talent.

Alas I fear that fans prefer result of home teams rather than long term strategy

Oh yea Italy win by 2 goals. Apologies for my lack of faith ,hope Harry proves wrong

Oh I couldn't agree more but it comes down to the when is good enough, I saw something on the BBC site that said it was something like only 50 odd players that have come through club academies in the past 10yrs that go on to make a premier league start.

I'm outraged at the total arrogance & ignorance of Roy Hodgeson; the pundits, England 'greats' amongst them, - Shearer, Hoddle & co & those magnificently knowledgeable fans, - all wanted Harry to start the game!!

......let's hope he brings him on in the second half, Clive!!
