It's a problem with his knees also he gets fluid around his knees too. He has had to give up his dream to become a football player. Don't be sorry not everyone has knowledge of things but thank you anyway.

Staines

I had this when I was a couple of years younger than your boy. I was a competitive athlete and my knees were mullered from a young age, especially as I combined athletics with football.

To make matters worse, I was over six feet tall at twelve years of age so the growth plus the sport was a nasty combo on the joints.

I did a load of work on strengthening my quads, calves and hamstrings - quads especially. Once the quads got really strong my knee pain eased.

It sounds daft talking about weights and muscle building at such a young age but the alternative of surgery really wasn't an option.

Even now I suffer from the repercussions but strengthening the quads still works.

So leg press machines, squats, rowing machine and bikes (real and machine). Nothing quite as effective as hill reps on a bike.

Hope that helps, good luck.

Had it about that age, grew out of it eventually. Avoid what hurts, support bandage might help.

My brother and sister both did as young teenagers (I clearly wasn't sporty enough...) but essentially grew out of it. I don't think either of them had any lasting effects, but did have to ease off on doing quite so much sport while it was painful.
