Now people who are into this kinda thing will know what I am talking about here, so for those that don't please bear with me.
I compete on a motorsport simulation called iRacing. It's basically the most realistic computer based driving simulation next to driving a real race car that you can do, even real life race drivers use it as a tool to learn tracks and try out car setups. I have been a member of iRacing for a three years as of tomorrow (Saturday) and am now at a level where I compete for real money prizes, in a championship sanctioned by the organizers of the real world version. In this case $10,000 for the championship winner.
Tonight was the third race of the season, and I won! This is my first ever race win on iRacing, I have come close on each rung of the ladder on the way to where I am right now, but this is the first time I've gone to "Victory Lane".
I cannot describe how happy I feel right now. I am one of only 50 drivers on iRacing who are eligible to compete at this level and at this point in time one of only three British drivers in the championship.
As iRacing is basically akin to a real life racing career, I have worked hard to get to where I am. Suffice to say I'm feeling a little bit drained (it was a near 3 hour race after all) and a bit emotional. To achieve something I've been striving for, for three years is an incredible feeling, yet for me it's also a little painful as I can only wish that my Dad could have been here to see it.
I know there are plenty of you on here who won't have a clue about what I'm on about here and some will even call iRacing an expensive computer game, and that's fine, you are welcome to your opinion. But this is the next best thing to driving a real race car. Anyway I'm going into a geeky hard sell crap and I didn't wanna do that. So thank you and good night, I'm off to celebrate with a cuppa.

"Congrats.. are there virtual grandstands where virtual public can watch you.. or virtual TV coverage "
It was broadcast live on the internet, as every race in the championship is. Not sure what the viewing stats are to be fair, the races run on American East Coast time, it's usually around 0045-0200 GMT start times
"Have ya banged any of the Pit Lane Birds yet ?"
"Virtually" every one of them...
See what I did there?
Thank you all for the adulation (I think that's what it's called). Not had much sleep, been too pumped up! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my sponsors, Wired2Fire Performance PC's, Thrustmater and NCH Software. I'd also like to thank my team, could not have done it without them, especially my Spotter and my Crew Chief. |

"Did you have to drink a carton of virtual milk"
No it was virtual Champagne but it wasn't very nice.
As a little addition to this, I've just completed the iRacing 12 Hours of Sebring. A team race with two classes of car, Le Mans Prototypes and GT3's.
I was in a GT3 Porsche with 2 other drivers. I drove the final 60 minute stint (after having driven the first three hours straight), bringing the car home 9th in class and 16th overall. This is a great result for the team as it's the first endurance event we have entered (unfortunately we missed the Daytona 24 Hr race a few weeks ago through technical issues) also notwithstanding that we started down in 38th place. My final stint was a tough one, battling for class and race position finishing just half a second behind the car 8th in class after a battle for the last 40 minutes of the race.
This week has been pretty epic to say the least. I'm not totally shattered, but buzzing, so I need a cuppa before I go to bed (or a celebratory blow job). |

I'd tell you to get a life but I'm fully aware of the kind of buzz you're feeling. Well done |

iRacing is my life, no more of a lifestyle. It's no different to a career racing real cars, 'cept you can't get killed
Look what happened in that real life endurance race yesterday. A car crashed and ended up killing a spectator. So yeah I guess you could say that I'm not risking my life and sure I'm not, but if you were to actually go on YouTube and watch replays of some races from iRacing, you would see how competitive it is (a billion times more so than Formula One that's for certain) and you would see how tough it is to do well in these races.
It's one of those thing that I can honestly say "don't knock it unless you've tried it" and "until you've been in that situation, you'll never understand" because you won't.
Apologies to everyone if I seem to have gone on a bit of a rant there. All good now. As you were. |

"Congrats and sounds good would like to try this myself do you need a special set up ?"
Well a decent PC for a start. I build my own PC for about £500 (that's just for the tower - you have to add a monitor (at least 27") and keyboard and mouse to that). You really also need a wheel and pedal set as well. I use a Logitech G27. iRacing isn't the sort of thing you can do effectively with a game pad like on an Xbox or PS3/4.
iRacing is classed as a "sim" or simulation, not a game so the physics are as realistic as it gets without getting into a real race car. iRacing can be fun, but when you start getting into the higher levels of either the road racing side or the oval racing side (which are two separate licences) the competition can get very serious. There is also no "single player" mode where you race against the computer. Any race you enter, you compete against other people from all around the world as iRacing is internet based, indeed iRacing means Internet Racing).
As I've said in previous posts on this thread search "iRacing" on YouTube and watch a few races to see what you think. |

Get a life man, playing computer games at your age and immersing yourself in it totally as a life style, time to grow up and get out there and stop hiding in your bedroom.... some would say this!.. and we might agree, but this is Fab and here whatever floats your boat, you are not harming anyone else, so good luck to you, just remember to have a real life too. |

Oh I've had that a few times I can assure you, but those who aren't involved in the sim racing world, don't really understand. I don't "immerse" myself in iRacing 24/7, my eyes couldn't cope, I have a schedule that I stick to.
I enjoy what I do and yes I'll admit, I get free stuff out of it (yes I am sponsored), but that's only because I worked hard to get where I am. |
