Its probably very subjective and will depend on the individual..
how long since they last had their oats may well play a part with some..

I believe the value of a compliment can be lessened on here due to people firing them out willy nilly.....if I were getting lots on here I'd be sceptical probably so I do try and be measured in my compliments and only give them if I mean them....
If folk are sceptical then that's just the way it is I guess |

I (Mr L) only give a compliment if I genuinely mean it and I do give them very often as it's something I like to do. This might be based on looks, personality, work ethic or other things but I like to give compliments every day xx |

I hope compliments aren't now going to be _iewed upon as being a lazy and cheap way to try and get somebodies attention, when I give a compliment I genuinely mean it, if they are stunning I say so, beautiful I say so and I genuinely mean it.

It was a bit tongue an cheek from my part when I posted the question; I quite agree that some compliments are really genuine (and reflect the belief of the compliment giver), some are meant in a nice way (ie a way to make another person feel nice) and some are a way to get close to the person and gain advantage and those latter ones fall into the BS category.
Bottom line as some have suggested people like to be told nice things and also most people DO KNOW when a compliment is genuine or not.  |

It's always a sign of motive if the person giving the compliment has something brown on the end of their nose.
'Forum compliments' tend to be pretty easy to slot into a particular category.
1. Genuine compliments

If I pay a compliment I mean it.. I try to be specific to.
Just saying "you look nice/beautiful/insertgenericadjectivehere" is lazy.
If I like a person's eyes or smile I'll say why. If it's an outfit or hair cut I try make sure the person knows I've paid attention
But on a site like this, with false intentions and people just trying their luck, a little caution is understandable. |
