Age shouldn't matter to anyone. It's about how you get on with people and if you have enough common interests to enjoy. Age is just a number, that's one of the reasons I don't have an age range set on here because there are fab people of all ages and having a strict range might preclude you from meeting somebody brilliant.

1. It is not about what other people think - if you and the other person are comfortable with the situation.

2. People mature at different rates and some 25 year olds are more worldy, mature and have common sense than others, twice their age.

3. Relationships in the true sense are about a holistic view of the other person not just one aspect ie their age (size, beliefs etc)

4. That said, for me personally I could not imagine being with somebody who was more than around 10 years older/ younger. The reason for this and as I said, it is only applicable to me... I find that many people much younger or older might be at a different stage in their lives and have different interests.

I am comfortable with other people having a greater age gap in their relationships...as long as they are comfortable I probably would not even notice....

Yes, age does matter. Everything matters when it comes down to it but communication and compromise will help.

Age isn't just a number it's experiences, reference points, language, culture etc. and I think you'd be wise to be aware of it but not to make it a deal breaker.

Mr F is 16yrs my junior. When we first met, I felt perhaps a little uncomfortable. He was in his twenties.

He was persistent, it paid off! We are still together after 10yrs.

And to be perfectly honest, out of the pair of us...

He's the let's stay home, watch a film and wear our slippers one.

I'm the let's go out, and act daft one.

So yes I'm guessing age is perhaps just a number.. Well in our case anyway!

I taught him all he knows!!

Why do people trot out the nonsense "age is just a number?" If that were true any aged person can drive, vote, join this site, work etc...in the real world age matters!

For a relationship to work however, extreme age differences MAY be a problem. Would you fit in at a social gathering with her friends and vice versa? Could you cope with people thinking you're her dad? Do you have enough shared interest?

Personally I wouldn't be asking a group of strangers what route I should take in my life: I'd know what's right for me and could give a flying one what anyone thought.

It comes down to whatever you feel comfortable with. I wouldn't worry about what others think. I went shopping with my daughter with her two week old son. I got some very odd looks, but found it amusing. I am actually not quite 21 years older !

You're going to say that as the majority of women on here are old enough to be your mum.

Still, yes, if you're just after a fuck then age probably wouldn't be that much of a factor but would you have a 'proper' relationship with a woman around the same age as your mother?

Fair enough. But you kinda prove my point about the rarity of the longevity of significant age gap relationships. And by significant I mean 20+ years.

Reality starts to kick in when the youngest hits their 40s.
