Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
"According to the latest figures, this site is not short on newbies. "
In fairness, that's only half the story - if there are more profiles being deleted than created, then it's a reducing website.
I wonder what the specific criticisms are of this site, though, given that those that I've seen are apparently just as applicable to any other similar site. |

"According to the latest figures, this site is not short on newbies.
Where do you look to see latest member figures??"
.
Someone posted a thread in Support asking for figures recently, and Admin responded. |

I’ve seen the site in question (I think), people joined FAB and then they claim they were abused in the chatrooms, camrooms and PM’s. This may or may not be true and it takes no account of what they might have done to invite the abuse they claim the received. Some stated words to the effect of , ‘If you are not a size 10 then you are not welcome’ no doubt a size 20 looking for an excuse for not getting any offers, whereas its attitude and personality that really matters. A bad attitude will create poor results on ANY community website regardless of the subject matter.
As for numbers don’t be fooled, websites are a numbers game, its all about ‘traffic’. I can’t remember the name of the swinger site but they posted their members stats which looked impressive enough but 40% were dead accounts, probably 90% of the remaining 60% was virtually inactive. I do remember the same site made it virtually impossible to delete your account and they also shared the data base with other front ends.
You see it in these forums, when folks moan about sending PM’s and getting no replies and blame it on rudeness and or ask ‘what am I doing wrong’ or they just give up thinking that all swingers are time wasters... REAL swingers are not time waster but the general public are pretty good at it.
ADMIN has stated that the take up rate is 500 to 600 new members per day that is something like 200 THOUSAND per year (although real world its likely to be more exponential than linear), now times that by the years the site has been live, maybe minus a year for the start-up. The new members offset by people actually ‘closing’ accounts will be tiny, compared to those who just never log back in.
Now look at the number of folks who post in these forums, it’s a very tiny (fraction of 1) percentage of the total membership. Looking at other swinger sites where it is possible to work some stats the active membership, by that I mean log in most everyday and talk to people is only something like 2% of the total membership, out of the 2% only a few are actually meeting and shaggin folks.
This I think is no reflection on ANY swingers site but it is a reflection on the public in general. While this may not apply to YOU or YOU or someone else, as a general thing it holds true...
Consider this if you will...
Hold a party, just an ordinary party, invite a 100 and 50 turn up. Out of the 50, 40 of them are just there cos they got nothing better to do other than sit about drinking and eating free food. The 10 will be having a laugh but they will be inspired by just a couple or three ‘characters’.
You can see a similar pattern with forums when you look at the number of ‘posters’ compared to the number of ‘readers’.
Black sheep and millions of white sheep is the way of things, a few leaders/doers and 100’s or 1000’s or millions of followers and wannbies.
ANY community website or any ‘community’ anything will only be as good as the people who support it.

Numbers mean little on a website like this, what is important is how active the members actually are.
Most if not all swinging website like to inflate their membership figures, they do this by including all members whether or not they are active, so someone still counts even if they have not been on the site for a year. Another area that make websites appear to have more members his multiple profile by one person, this can be for two reasons, firstly they are a couple member but both people have single profiles too, this can also happen when someone has stopped using the site and forgotten their log in details so they just set up another profile.
Personally what I think you should measure a swinging website on is, success, whether you actually meet people from that website, we are members of a few other sites, all which claim(or appear)to have more members that this one, but we have had little success on those sites as opposed to great success in meeting genuine people on FAB. |

Just for the record if there was any doubt out there my post is in no way a complaint in respect of this site. The most success we have had in this hobby (outside of parties/clubs) is with FAB.
Other sites that do display stats that enable trends to be exposed are not doing themselves any favours and I don’t honestly think it does the hobby any favours either. One thing it won’t change is the truth behind it as it says more about how the public in general are, community websites are just a place where some of these trends can show up.
Of course people do sign-up to sites with very low membership numbers, if they didn’t none of these sites would ever get off the ground. BUT if you had to choose one or other and the choice was a swinger site with 100 members and one with 1000 which would you choose? No contest is there?
I dare say that if you stripped the general public content from the equation the remaining REAL swingers number would be a very small minority. That’s ok but it would also make it look like a closed shop repelling newbies.
