Cancelling to get a better deal
Jump to: Newest in thread
Sky always offer something to get you to stay or keep a premium package - not sure on virgin, but I am sure if you meant the Sky word to them as an alternative, they might just make you a good offer.
Even if you say you are leaving, the companies have retention teams who will call before the final cut off date and try and change your mind, usually with a good incentive thrown in.

Seriously, you would be amazed at just how much you can save if you threaten to leave.
Call their bluff, before I left for good, I actually got some real sweet deals.
I'm with John Lewis now, they are amazing and YES, they do broadband and the service is the same as in the stores!
If virgin won't give you what you want, check around.

"Anyone got a better deal from a company because they threatened to cancel?
I want to try with Virgin, but knowing my luck they will offer me bugger all."
The cost of acquiring a new customer is significantly more expensive than keeping an existing one, so 9 times out of 10 you will get an offer to stay that is a reduction on what you are currently paying. |

I had a Virgin mobile and called them to say I was leaving. My contract was £45 per month and my good lady's was £22 per month. All they did was offer me the codes and say they hope I will be happy with my new supplier and if not, please come back!
But I am now with 3 and so much happier! |

I just got my renewal quote for car insurance through. Tesco, 1 year no claims - £1530. £400 more than last year insurance as a brand new driver.
Went online same insurance for £640. With Tesco. Rag them up to say I wouldn't be renewing and could they offer a better deal? Nope. They can't match their online price. |

absolutely play one off against the other and see who gives you the cheapest deal... and don't be afraid to put in your notice because they all have retention departments that can offer you deals....
do it for tv/broadbad/landline.... do it for your gas/electricity..... do it for your mobile phone!!! |

Just ring them up and say look I've been with you x years now and I keep seeing all these special offer ads for new customers and I don't think it's fair, they'll put you through to disconnections then you'll be asked again why you want to quit and lo and behold all of a sudden you'll get a loyalty discount and sometimes a package bump. |

Every year or so I phone round the various utility and insurance companies and shake them down for a better deal. I've not gotten to the point of putting Goodfellas and Casino on to get me in the mood yet, but it's only a matter of time |

"The annoying thing about this, is I love my 100mb connection. Only Virgin do this. I don't want to be told to bugger off and get an inferior 5mb connection for the sake of a tenner a month."
You can threaten to leave , just see what they offer. You can still stay at the end of the day.
I've got deals like others on Sky, car insurance, mobile phone. |

I've had some good retention deals with Vodafone and O2 as well as home insurance - even had that reduced mid-year a few months ago, when I called to complain. Some insurance isn't penalised by leaving mid-year, so I will always ask with that and any service I'm using.
They don't rush to you to offer you some price cuts, the onus is on us to go with demands. |

Yes, happened with VirginMedia and various car and household insurance policies for me. I was happy to move and didn't stay with any of the companies.
