So, Bono's charity 'ONE' has come under attack...after raising circa £9m in donations last year, £5m went on wagers and a paltry £125k donated to AIDS related charities...the rest of the money was spent on 'gifts' to media organisations

apparently this is because it is not actually a charity that 'does', it is a charity to raise awareness.

i'm sure that anyone that speaks for a charity would rather tell the fundraisers what they would like to do with the money, rather than have it dictated...and all those funds on gifts, isn't it enough to pay to run an advert?!

i suspect the charity will be hard pushed to find support now and I hope it doesnt have a negative impact on other organisations....folk dont like the money they donate to be abused like this

i used to donate regularly to oxfam but stopped because of the amount of free gifts i got, i kept protesting and asked them to spend the money where it was needed, i was already donating so didnt need convincing.

no question here...just comment!

I rarely give to charities where I can't ascertain where my money is going. The only exception I make is the British Red Cross. I also give to a local hospice up here who really need the support.

i'm the same...now. I was fed up of receiving biros and stickers with pamphlets telling me how 20p could save a life....i thought the postage alone has just ended someones life then!

I do still donate to cancer research and macmillans though for personal reasons

I'm gonna start a charity to raise awareness of the fact that I need a lot more fookin dosh to have a good lifestyle. I'll need a salary for running it though. £1m per annum should cover it. Ta.

I wont name the Charity involved but I stopped because they kept pestering me to increase my donation. Now that in itself was not the problem... I resented the fact that they sent letters and glossy brochures everytime they did...

...and i bet bono takes a tax free wage for being at the helm too.

cannot stand the way he abuses his popularity to point at us all and tell us we are just as responsible as the politicians for putting an end to third world poverty and sits on his pot of gold....not even paying his taxes!

hypocrite!

Well it does make you think when some charities use 90% of money coming in on aid projects
