"Never smoked even one cig in my whole life and I'm so glad I never have. From what I've seen it appears to be incredibly hard to kick the habit.
Good luck to everyone trying to quit "
I gave up 16 years ago. I loved smoking, but was at the stage where I was smoking roll ups by day and several filter cigs and roll ups in the evening. I noticed how breathless I was becoming, just running up a small flight of stairs. I pretty much went cold turkey. Chewing gum helped. A wiser man than me once said, smoking is like alcoholism. Once a smoker, you are always one cigarette away. |

I started 35 years ago. And only time I've stopped is when I've been pregnant. Well done you |

"Congratulations to those who have given up and good luck to those trying "
I found the key for me was deciding to stop smoking rather than thinking of it as giving up. I wish success in stopping to everyone who wants to quit. |

"next dilemma - will you still meet smokers - do you find it hard being near smoke or does it make you more determined not to "
It's good standing with the smokers outside at work. My willpower not to smoke with them is great |

i found that a really useful way to test my resolve. I am happy to say I still stand outside the pub with my friends who smoke, rather than sit as Billy No Mates inside in the warmth. But I never feel like bumming a fag off them |

My previous attempts to stop smoking were characterised by a feeling I was giving up something I really enjoyed. So I always felt like I was sacrificing a pleasure. When I stopped I resolved not to smoke again for the good of my health. I noticed I was thinking about it differently. My cravings went very quickly and I haven't felt like smoking since. I make sense of it by saying I decided to stop rather than giving up...my _iew of the benefits far outweighed the loss. And I know I am always one cigarette away from starting smoking again but have no desire to have that cigarette. It makes sense to me lol |

I've always enjoyed smoking except for the after taste. I was forever chewing mints. It's disliking the taste and smell that's making me more determined to stop |
