THE weather is finally starting to improve, which can mean only one thing it's almost time to put the clocks forward.
British Summer Time will officially be here when the clocks go forward by an hour at 2am on Sunday, March 29.
Although it means an hour less in bed that morning, the change will bring longer, lighter evenings.
But why do we change the clocks in March and October ???????... I love the lighter nights so I am glad they change.

"I believe it was done to assist industry But do it really help ?if it was lighter at night all year maybe people would get more work done ."
Then we'd all need to move to somewhere like Iceland Or Greenland where they have months of both I think
I do agree with you however |

It was started during the first world war I think, to assist the industrial effort in the manufacture of weapons. Could be wrong, but I think it saved on lighting the factories. |

Because the 21st of March & October are the the two equinoxes of spring & autumn respectively (the reverse of in the southern hemisphere), when there's equally around 12 hours of day & night before there's gradually more daylight afterwards (or less in autumn).

Actually technically that's not entirely true.
The Gregorian calendar is wildly inaccurate hence why we need leap years and then cancelling leap years every now and then.
The equinox can fall anywhere between 19 to the 21.
And the solstices from 20th to the 23rd.
Also I believe the main consensus is that we should stay on bst instead of staying on GMT. If we stayed on GMT it would be light in June at something like 2.40am |

Counting on my fingers doesn't this mean we get 7 months of summer and only 5 months of winter?
I hadn't thought about that before... I know its cos I'm a man and my brains are now located further south.

Them times were for. London, so the further north you are, the longer the day! |

March 21-June 21 spring
June 21-september 23 summer
September 23-December 21 autumn
December 21-march 21 winter.
Astronomically speaking. |
