New thread... So we are well into march now. How's everyone doing?

My update.. Currently 47.75lbs down since September. 2 dress sizes. Not long till I break under 9 stone. Once that happens then I'm changing my goals to build muscle.. Not a lot I don't want to be huge but definitely want some definition. Also to cut body fat. X

well done!! I've lost 1.5 stone since 5th Jan and still would like to lose another 2 stone to get firmly within my healthy weight range. I'm feeling a bit disappointed with myself today though as I had a bit of a binge weekend....after declining cake 3 times this weekend I then had lots of alcohol and a Chinese takeaway!.....extra effort needed this week

I like low caring mostly as that has a great effect on the blood sugar etc but breakfast is always tricky for me. I don't like the idea of eggs all the time. Today I'll be having an olive pot from tesco and some beef jerky lol

As I posted in the last thread, I rode an audax yesterday of 202km/126miles

8hrs 52 minutes

8656ft of ascent

Average speed 14.2mph

4561 calories

Was only my 3rd road ride of the year and I found it pretty tough around the 80 mile mark, after 100 miles I got a second wind and it started to feel easier again.

Broken now though!

I've drifted off course a bit the past couple of weeks, so feel a bit rubbish. Still on 1.5 stone off since January, but with another 3.5 to go I'm in that overwhelmed by it all thing! But it's Monday, time to reset and start again.

Don't look at it like that. I had 4 stone to lose when I started but instead of that huge goal I set myself mini goals for each month, or to get to the next stone or to of lost 20lbs etc. I've been doing that since September and now I've only got 8lbs to go!

You won't get 'big and muscly', because you don't have enough testosterone, being a woman. Don't worry. Lifting weights will burn fat, tone and sculpt you.

Squats are a ladies best friend. They target and hit every muscle a woman is really bothered about - quads, hamstrings, glutes..

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

Its going really well, need to build in more classes and really work on my flexibility now as I have my teaching module mid april.

Would love to be a bit more toned and down a few more pounds by then... but its been a good month, I finally broke the 18 stone lost marker - I was hovering just the other side for about 3 weeks on a plateau.

Training for tough mudder coming on really well too, next few month focus is upper body strength!

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I'm down 23lbs since my fattest (just before Xmas). I'm now doing three classes a week plus a DVD or two, and walk 4 miles a day.

I did 30 mins on the elliptical followed by 15 mins Abs Blast class. I really struggled today. Not sure why, although I didn't sleep well last night. But one more class this week then a long weekend in Barcelona means I suspect no weight loss next week, and I won't care

I was classic apple - and then lo and behold with the right eating I lost bell fat....low carbs, no sugar...high protein, medium/low fat....you have to eat fat to burn fat so the slimming clubs that sell you the low fat regime are only doing to stop you from losing the weight quicker...

Well after being crippled from body conditioning on Monday (loadedlunges, with leg back on a bench) and walking like a freak all week I finally felt ok this morning.

Turned up at the studio this morning for my usual double class which is a cardio class followed by body pump to be told the instructor for the first class was poorly so the kettlebells teacher was standing in.

So an hour of kettlebells followed my body pump and im sure there's not a bit of me that doesn't hurt!!

Once my lad starts school in September I'll be able to go on my days off when he's a school. But I'm ok as the main of my weight is off now and the rest shouldnt be a problem. X

But I am not ever doing another one!!

I definitely prefer 10k as a distance. I by no means fast, but I can hold my own. Half marathon is just not my distance.

It's not just my speed though, after the last one I did in October I was poleaxed for 2 days. Couldn't get off the sofa, couldn't walk. Today I've been out for dinner.

The atmosphere at events helps too. I did my first 10k last May, and the atmosphere was amazing, ran half of it before I even thought of how far I'd gone.

1.25lb off this week. Grand total 49lbs dropped since September. That's exactly 3.5 stone. About another 10lbs till my target. It's getting tougher now....

I generally prefer the 10k, it's over before you know it

and the family don't have to hang around for too long waiting

I just do the one half marathon a year as a motivator, but four to five 10ks

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

After a disastrous (diet wise) trip to Barcelona, I am back on the regime. I did a weights class last night that was heavy on lunges and squats, so I sacked off Metafit today and did a 30 min swim instead. Much nicer, and there were only 4 people in the whole pool! I think I'll be reorganising my fitness plan.

My body seemed to come crashing down around me after the half marathon last weekend. Cold and flu symptoms, I can feel my glands expanding, and most bizarrely of all, thrush (sorry TMI)! So I'm going clean and organic for at least a week (I have a big weekend in London next weekend), that should sort it out.

Got weighed yesterday and am up to 35lbs lost now. I'm the lowest I've been in over 3 years and it's inspired me to keep going. I'm hoping the lighter nights and warmer weather will help too.

Well done to everyone else on their weight loss and other achievements.

Hi,

So I'm starting my healthy eating/fitness routine in earnest tomorrow... I've joined a gym and been a few times, I've joined weight watchers so I've got the 'fear' of the weigh in!! And ice written out a few weeks menus so I don't need to wing it!!

Motivation is my biggest problem as I do a very physical job and do Very long hours (I really shouldn't be big at all!!) I suffer from depression, but not enough to warrant any help or concern from the professionals and I'm a little bit lonely which leads me to stuff my face!!

It's really great to see how you've all done, I hope I can soon join you in celebrating our success stories!!

I lost just under 4 stone last year through saying no and running a lot.

I've put a bit back on now it I'm no where near as big as I was before.

I'm just getting back in to running again cos I've entered a half marathon in May but I'm still struggling to get in to it.

Jools started coming to gym with me back in October.

We do bi monthly measurements of chest waist etc

She has lost

2inches off her bust.

An inch off chest under bust

2inches off waist.

Gained an inch on arms and legs. But that is because she has toned up.

But it's not just about loss and gains. The health benefits are going to be huge in the coming years.

Not to mention we are spending quality time together and she is looking great.

Her self confidence is soaring.

Keep it up everyone your doing amazing

Sugar though is useful for causing an insulin spike post work out to transport all the protien and other nutrients to the muscle to aid recovery.

Eat less but higher calorie food then.

I realised last week I have a lot of work to do mentally about losing weight. Whenever I decide to eat healthier I eat more as I am so scared of being hungry! I need to learn that it's ok to be hungry. Thoughts of food consume me, I'm always thinking about what I could eat and when.

There are but they're usualy just a big wedge of shitty carbs or sugar.

Trying to keep it low gi outside of the post work out stuff.

And most of the protein from meat and fish rather than shakes. Gotta love makro and it's 2.5 kg trays of chicken thighs or breast lol

Fruit sugar is fructose though and is actually low gi and doesn't cause an insulin spike.

Define protein shake as a protein shake will normally have only a few grams of sugar in it. Some have maltodextrin to boost the carbs but again it's low gi.

Big wedge of dextrose is what you need.

You don't need to be hungry Evie. I can hand on heart say that I've never been hungry since changing my diet. Just cut the crap food and eaten loads more healthy food. If I get the munchies between meals I'll eat some chicken and a boiled egg. I've always got stuff like that on hand. I've refused to 'diet' this time. Just totally changed Mr outlook on food. I know you do your running but have you considered any weight type training? Even a ten quid kettlebell and YouTube videos? X

have a read of the back of the bottle lol.

one fo the best ones for mass gaining/caloires is any old whey protien, and instant oats. (a tenner will get you a 5kg sack of instant oats) which is like very finly ground oats few scoops of each and you basicaly have a meal replacement lol, add a bit of destroxe though if its for pwo

I am diabetic and find fruit has exactly same effect on my blood sugars as refined sugar.

I use succralose (splendor)

Be it in very small dosage and only in tea.

For other sweetening requirements I use agave nectar. Which is a plant sugar is definitely a low gi, doesn't spike blood sugar, tasty and natural.

that's because agave nectar about 50% fructose.

Yes, that's the problem, have you tried to do cardio before? As that could stimulate more hunger. Or try this

Week 1 3500kcal

Week 2 2500kcal

week 3 1900kcal

Week 4 5000kcal

Then repeat

That's a good way to recharge if your stuck in a weight gain plateau.

I would as well! That's a shit load of food. I don't know much about it as ive been trying to lose weight not bulk but aren't there powders/shakes for that kind of thing?

There are but they're usualy just a big wedge of shitty carbs or sugar.

Trying to keep it low gi outside of the post work out stuff.

And most of the protein from meat and fish rather than shakes. Gotta love makro and it's 2.5 kg trays of chicken thighs or breast lol

"

If you are bulking, you need plenty of carbs - You can get away with less protein than when you are cutting, when it becomes essential to preserve muscle mass.

'Toning up' from what I understdnd is essentially making the muscles bigger so everything looks more taught. If you can't do that then surgery/lipo is really your only option xx

I've been stuck at the same weight even though I do around 7 hours exercise a week - mostly in the gym, and I'm on my feet 10 hours a day at work 5 days a week.

It's not budging. I've tried over eating to up leptin then watch my food again, nothing happens. Think surgery is the only way. I can't physically get it off. Ideas folks?

Diet is as per PT instructor.

Protein in the morning so cold meat and cheese. Plus an actimel.

Lunch. Tuna and a salad. Water.

Before gym. A banana.

After gym. Thai curry or something similar. Rice.

Snacks throughout the day. Cheese. Grapes. Kiwi fruit.

Fluid intake 1.5 litre.

Do you eat 1.5x your body weight in pounds in protein?

Also if you been doing high reps, switch to low reps to stimulate new muscles from 2 to 5.

For example I eat, 3000kcal 240g protein and 300g carbs aday.

How much cardio do you do?

Sometimes you may need to shock your metabolism into action

However just be sure that you are not actually eating extra, try a food log to record everything.

Use myfitnespal to add up everything your eating each day.

And see just how much your acrually eating. Diet will affect fat way more than exercise.

Try to reduce carbs rather than fats and protien though.

B here - the fem half.

I'm trying to define and tone. Lose fat. I've been told to cut out a lot of fruit and eat more protein as I used to eat loads of fruit. Too much sugar. Was told to have banana before gym as a good source of energy.

I'm at the moment doing 3 reps of 15 on the weight stuff, very little high cardio stuff (I've asthma). I use the treadmill for 10 mins walking, the rowing machine for 10 mins (inc 2 rests of a min). I'm 5ft6 and around 11 stone.

Oh my calorie intake used to be shockingly low and I wasn't drinking enough liquid. I was maybe 1000 calories on a good day and 1 litre fluid. I did the 5/2 diet with a friend just to prove a point. She lost 4lb the first week, I put on 2lb. Now I'm eating better and drinking more but holding the weight.

What's your current calories per dsy? Use myfitnespal to add it all up for a week and add everything then you can make a plan

Without knowing anything though your blind and will get the goals wrong.

That amount of cardio is basically pointless, my if your going to do walking as your cardio f go out for a good half hour/hour long walk in the nice fresh outdoors.

10 miniutes walking on a treadmill though isn't really going to do anything for you.

How much weight are you doing and more importantly how do you feel on the last rep of each set?

What weights are you doing/what muscle groups.

Also have a youtube/Google of "thrusters" very simple excerise can be done at home (cheap dumbells or fill some empty milk bottles with water) one of the best for weight loss and toning because it uses practically every muscle you've got making it quite intensive.

With the asthma you'll have to work out what speed suits you best where your getting a good workout but not taking forever but also so your not risking an attack.
