Would you stop for a Hitch Hiker, obviously Women could be putting themselves at risk but I still see loads of People thumbing a lift and wondered how many of you would stop.
I picked one up last Week at the Services, he was one of the Driver Types carrying Trade plates and it was peeing down so I gave him a lift |

why ever not? when i was a penniless student, i was grateful for every lift i got .. so whenever i see anyone hitchhiking, i always stop. but only for a lone person. groups are a definite no-no these days |

Ah that's horrible, I take back my joke.
I actually don't see hitchers anymore and haven't for years. In my childhood you used to see a hitcher on every motorway intersection. |

I will on occasion pick one up but i am careful to pick one up who isn't too pungent. I did pick up one hippy type who was wet and hummed a bit last Oct and ended up buying a new air freshener in Cardiff for the trip back. I do ask for some id though even if they have trade plates in hand. |

"Having hitched all over the UK in my younger days I always try to stop. I've met loads of great and interesting people over the years. "
Me to, and Europe to in the early 80's. Loved it like you say whether you're the hiker or the driver you meet loads of interesting people.
If I was on my own, I wouldn't pick a single woman up. |

I have always picked up hitchhikers, but wouldn't pick up a fem as I heard a right horror story for an old aquaintance once, he picked up a single female and when she was in the car said to him, you will take me anywhere I want to go or I will tell the police you molested me. |

trade plate drivers get a money for train trips home, but some choose to save it and hitch hike instead.
but they dont get payed very much for the job so it makes sence.
i have in the past and would give them a lift |

After seeing some really freaky hitchhiker movies I wouldn't these days. Also they tend to hijack cars that way because its almost impossible to steal one without the keys now. |

I often pick up hitch hikers
Here its kind of easier to - many people hitch hike. Once when I was a new driver I was driving along an empty straight road when an old lady jumped in front of the car to stop it for a lift. I drove her about 7 miles into town and she never shut up - only I didnt understand a word she said as she spoke so fast
But yeah, if its safe for me to stop and its pissing down - I'll give a lift |
