No, not a thread about condoms, before someone makes a joke! Just found out that Baldrick has been knighted! Sir Tony Robinson. Is this going too far? Nothing against Robinson but I'm not sure he should be knighted. Used to be much harder to get such an honour: for example, Bobby Moore was never knighted.

So, what should someone do to deserve a knighthood?

Titz Towers, North Notts

He's a member of Labour's NEC and was awarded it for his political work. He's done a bit more than have cunning plans and carry a shovel about.

The queens honours list is starting to look more like the sex offenders register. My advice if your ever offered a knighthood, turn it down.

Tenbury Wells

I like the man

He's done lots to raise awareness of our history

Plus he's very political

He doesn't sit on his arse and moan about things

He's proactive

Good on the man

Hip hip Hooray

He deserves it just for having been Baldrick, let alone his other work.

While I tend to agree honours are dished out to easily, like others have said I'm not entirely sure Tony Robinson deserves that criticism

I know he has strong ties with Labour. Point is, is that enough to warrant a knighthood? When I was young, it was a rare honour. Now handed out very readily. Who should they be given to and why? Shouldn't it be such a rare honour that when you hear 'Sir' or 'Dame', you think in admiration 'Wow! What have they done?'

Not criticising him, just the system

I am no expert but it appears that about 2,600 knighthoods are awarded each year. It may just be that it is easier to become aware of the awards now than it was then.

Jimmy Saville got one?

Seems that honours are just a way of ingratiating the great unwashed to the ruling classes?
