Was walking along today and heard some guy say "Gordon Bennet look at that guy struggling to paddle against the current" to some woman...I look to the estuary and see guy struggling to paddle a kayak.
So I thought haven't heard that in very long time. Childhood loads but then never seemed to hear it much.
I'm not sure who Gordon Bennet was?
Anyone know the saying and can shed any light onto who he was or how it came about?
Googled it and appears to be about an idiot in a village however like most things this might be different by areas...of how story went? |

"I did know this and forgot, jays ringing me in a minute he knows cause we've had the conversation before
"
Ok cool
Do people still say it? Haven't heard it for long time like I said. Guess these things die out |

Gordon Bennett was a newspaper man, sponsored the blue riband Atlantic race and the Gordon bennett trophy in motor racing among other things. Not sure if he was on the titanic and can't be arsed to google.
He was the Gordon bennett of Gordon bennett fame. |
