When I tell my neighbour her baby is beautiful- I'm quite sure he is- he likes me and is very smiley, but I have no interest in babies (they all look the same), so for me it's a white lie |

so you are saying.. if it is told for unselfish reasons... that makes it justified? I think that would be my understanding |

I don't know if this answers anything, but sometimes a lie is more acurate than the truth...
The truth is generally composed of facts and figures, but tends to exclude emotions and feelings.
A lie can often convey the 'sense' of something with much more clarity, when compared to the empirical facts? |

A white lie is something that could be considered harmless, and even beneficial, as you are sometimes trying to protect people or to try and do some good.
However you can get caught out, and no matter whatever your good intentions, a lie, white or a whopper is still a lie. |

I have lied in the past and will do so in the future, what I would personally class as white lies, to me that is a lie that is said to help someone or at least not upset of offend them.
Of course your bum doesn't look big in that.
He never felt a thing and died peacefully.

A white lie would cause only relatively minor discord if it were uncovered, and typically offers some benefit to the hearer. White lies are often used to avoid offense, such as complimenting something one finds unattractive. In this case, the lie is told to avoid the harmful realistic implications of the truth..guess its white as meant to be innocent ? |

I'd definitely agree it has to be for the wellbeing of someone else and not yourself, unless it hinders them in making an informed decision on something. |

Thats now i've always seen it, when my sister was pregnant she was the size of a house lol she was very self conscious about her weight gain and always used to ask if the new clothes she had got made her look fat
What you supposed to say...yeah you look like the back end of a hippo? when she was already so down about it anyway
So i'd just say
