if your children started swinging, obviously this only relates to those of us who have grown up children (I still call my 21year old son a child).

I know this is a double standard etc and yes im wrong in some ways as Im swinging myself, but I would be absolutely devastated if I thought my son was on a site like this one, as he would be if he knew i was swinging (he'd be shocked if he knew I was still having sex to be honest). If i feel any guilt about swinging at all, it is in relation to what my kids would think.

Totally understand where you are coming from - my kids are aware and feel it is my business. They also feel that it would not be their choice of lifestyle at their age now but are aware enough to allow for the possibility that they might change their mind one day.

Can I be honest and say I really don't understand why you would be devastated. Do you not think sex is such a fabulous pleasure ? Would you want to deny your son that pleasure ?

If my daughter (26) were on here then I know she was happy in her own skin and knew just how to enjoy sex to the max.

Or am I just an ole perv

Twice I've seen mothers meet daughters in swinging clubs. Once it was, er, shall we say "unexpected" and resulted in verbals that were louder than the music, from both sides, shocked that the other was there...and the second time, a different mother / daughter, it was like they had met in a pub for the first time.

Guess there's no big pattern to what to expect.

I feel that posts like this show a persons real attitude toward swinging. I'd question why you are doing something you consider so wrong for yourself.

I am able to separate me from my childrens mother. They are in their early 30's and mid 20's

I don't need their permission or approval and if they should object they are entitled to their veiwpoint. I know they'd be quite liberal about it as long as im safe.

In fact the youngest knows exactly what im up to.

Would I be worried if they did it and used sites like this? NO

I'm pretty sure they'd exercise enough sense to stay as safe as possibe.

No less safe than visiting other clubs. To be honest I think they'd be safer in some swinging clubs than in vanilla venues.

To say it's not good enough for them indicates that it's viewed as something deviant or dirty and that we should all be monogomous to be acceptable.

totally agree with granny here I have 3 boys 17,19.21 and I know they have all had sexual relationships !!!!

Sex is a good thing not something to be kept hidden away like it was back in the day lol !!!!

I agree that it may be uncomfortable to meet your child in a swingers club but at the end of the day it aint as dangerous as in a vanilla club.

just my take

Well I know from previous experience Granny that you disagree with everything I have to say, but that aside, yes it is double standards, as i stated above. I want the fairytale for my son. I want him to meet a lovely girl (he has done, he is engaged and shes a beautiful and lovely person) and i want him to get married and enjoy a fantastic sex life with that one person and have children and have a good job and him to live happily ever after.

the other issue is that I feel you have to express a certain maturity in relation to swinging and I dont feel he has that maturity.

I do look on swinging as an adventure and i am enjoying the lifestyle at the moment. But i wouldnt tell my work colleagues what I do because I know I would be judged, do you tell everyone that you swing? Or do you hold back the information because you would be judged and does it make you just a little ashamed?

That is a really, really good point - the club scene is about like minded people with a specific interest and "goal" ... alcohol is usually consumed only in moderate amounts and the chances of getting eating up or otherwise injured are remote...

What would be so bad about finding out your off-spring have a mature, open minded, non-judgemental attitude regarding recreational sex?

However, I see the flaw in my question..... it assumes all swingers have a mature, open minded, non-judgemental attitude regarding recreational sex...... which is obviously not the case or I would not be asking the question.

Absolutely - swinging when your relationship is good, will enhance it. If you are struggling in your relationship it will not fix the relationship. So I agree with you

I was brought up with the disneyfied (is that a word??) fairy tales - "meet prince live happily ever after" well Snow White never had to worry about where the next months rent was gonna come from so that was firmly knocked on the head when I was a teenager!

If when my daughters are old enought to be thinking about sex (they are only 12 and 7 and boys still smell icky to them ) I would hope it wouldnt cause any problems, for them, more than for me - Im an adult I can make up me own mind what I want to do.

By the time my girls are adults I would hope that I have taught them that nothing is wrong with sex and you have to be comfortable within your own skin.

All I ever want for my children is for them to be healthy and happy - if going out to a club (sex) once a week fortnight or month is what they want to do go for it HOWEVER I would be less happy if they went to the local meat market (normal club) every week fortnight or month, too many things can and do go wrong so often

In recent years I have been to both types of clubs and tbh there is more expectation at "normal" night clubs that there is at swingers clubs, well the ones we have been to anyway.

I wouldnt go the same night as my daughters were going - save their blushes lets face it who wants to see mum and dad wandering about nakkie???

In a vanilla partnership or marriage you don't go around advertising your sexual activitities so no reason to do it just because you are a swinger.

I agree with Granny,Ive said the same before on here more than once

Not the agreeing with granny bit but the children swinging bit

My should'nt my children grow up to have the same urges for sexual pleasure that I do? why would I find it so distasteful that the may choose to follow the same path as I have? they don't know what we do and at this moment in time they don't have the maturity to understand it

Sex is pleasurable, fulfilling and our bodies were built for it

That may be with one person for the rest of their lives or it may be seeking lots of experience with many others,as long as they're happy, grounded and understand the safety aspect of it then I would be happy

Information about swinging and swinging internet sites are literally saturating the web, even some of the dating sites are nothing more than shag sites,Its becoming the norm and I would'nt assume that most teenage kids don'nt have any idea that they exist when a lot of their time is spent communicating via the internet and passing gossip and info at the click of a button

I just want to say something about the club comparing (swing club/ night club)

I get asked frequently on this site why am I swinging and going to swing clubs instead going out on the pull in normall clubs

well as you all know clubs are just so much more trouble, people just get way to d*unk, sometimes fights etc happen, it puts a massive dent in the wallet and you from time to time go home with a headacke. I also find that alot of girls within my age area arnt mature (i dont say they all are immature but most are) and going to normall clubs you cant really fullfill the sexual fantasy's that you would be able to in the swing world

In the swingworld i speak to like minded people, sex is a very open topic for obvious reasons, thier is alot less hassel with it as well

I just plain and simple prefer the lifestyle.

i could go into more detail but no point jabbering on to long

so when your thinking if your children do it, maybe this might help having a younger person's perspective

That is a good perspective so thanks for that

You seem to have a maturity and understanding that some a lot older than you don't have

I think some people are born swingers

This is gonna come out wrong I know because its hard to put into words.

Whilst I am swinging myself, part of me does acknowledge that it is seedy. Now I have an adventurous side and at the moment I want to kick out at real life, but I wouldnt want my son doing it. Whilst we do talk about sex, me and him, it is always in a question and answer session and it is never crude. We have a good relationship and he thinks of me as well just mum, without sexuality, and with a lot of respect. We are not one of those families whereby I would go out clubbing and see him also in the same club with his mates, he would be embarrassed and I keep a certain decorum in that kind of thing.

I cant really describe why I think its wrong but I know I wouldnt want him involved in this world, it does have a slightly seedy edge to it doesnt it, its why we are ashamed to admit it in real life and its why, if we are single, that we dont tell prospective partners about it, unless we met them on the swinging scene.

Like ive maintained, it is double standards but I dont want this life for my son.

why is it seedy? i could probably have nights out and have more sexual partners if i went to a pub or club. i wouldnt be bothered if i found my son on this site or one like it. i the site and its members are open and say how they feel, and some of the topics are very enlightening its helped me alot in making my choices.

You know what?!! I can see where you're coming from.

Also, I don't think there's a parent alive who isn't a hypocrite where their children are concerned.

We tell them not to speak to strangers, monitor what sites they go on on the internet etc yet we go on the internet and meet strangers for sex. We warm them about the dangers of binge drinking but think nothing of getting hammered ourselves. We make sure our children have their mobiles with them, tell us where they're going and who with, but many go off to meet strangers in hotels without telling another living soul what they're doing.

The list is endless, and yes, I realise we're talking adult children here, but hypocrisy is hypocrisy!

Double standards without a doubt, but we are all guily of it!!

She is 34 years old and went with 2 of her female friends, my family have always known that I worked in the lifestyle and enjoyed it's pleasures.

I took them to the club, showed them round and then sat at the bar all night in case 2 of them wanted to use the jacuzzi or other facilities and the other wanted to sit with me while they did so.

I introduced them to the club staff and friends, now she has seen what it is like when she goes to the club she checks with me that I am not going and goes safe in the knowledge that she will not bump into me and vice versa.

I am happy that she goes to a swingers club, she is divorced with 2 small boys, I would rather she went to a swingers club than to the nightclubs in Birmingham where drugs are being taken like sweets, where fights inside and outside are common, where binge drinking is encouraged and where if she meets someone she likes she is faced with the prospect of taking a stranger to her home where my grandkids are sleeping or going to a strangers home.

I know at the club she is safe to do what she want and safe from many of the dangers of the general nightclub scene.

"This is gonna come out wrong I know because its hard to put into words.

No it does not have a seedy edge it has a very open, sharing and caring edge in fact. "SEEDY" is only the way YOU percieve it and this is probably due to early "female programming" of you by others so it is not even really your own perspective. If you think it is "SEEDY" you really should not get involved as it may be able to have the respect for others that they deserve.

I re-iterate "In a vanilla partnership or marriage you don't go around advertising your sexual activitities so no reason to do it just because you are a swinger."

I so respect your honesty, and you should be commended for it. It's not easy to say some of the things you have in this post on a swingers site. I would suggest most active swingers do not find their lifestyle choice to be 'seedy' or wrong in any way, and with the benefit of education, life experience, tolerance and free choice - they feel a certain 'pride' that they have a more open minded and liberated approach to sex and relationships. Lets not forget that todays socially unnacceptable is tomorrows norm (in the 50's most interracial relationships were frowned upon). On the question of how I would feel if my children chose this lifestyle,I personally have no preference either way BUT to use your phrase I would be 'devastated' if they grew up with an intolerance for those who do choose the lifestyle or dismiss them as being seedy. (I don't agree with your use of the word 'ashamed' but I do agree that because of intolerance and the sad aspect of society that is quick to judge, many feel they have to keep this aspect of their lives 'seperated' from the rest). I hope the next generation have less hang-ups than many in ours do. I therefore challenge you (in a friendly way) by asking you if you would like your son to have a similar view of this scene as you in later life?

Interesting thread but, at the end of the day I think it's human nature to not want to think of their parents / kids having sex, especially wild free mad sex.

My parents know I swing and so do many people in my family. My kids are still at primary school so doesnt apply, but if I can be honest to my family I hope I would be able to be honest with my kids if it came apparant they needed/wanted to know or for what ever reason.

I am not ashamed of my swinging life. It is everything about me and can feel totally happy when having fun. My parents know I go to my local swing club, they let me use the car and often have put petrol in for me. They have seen how this helped me out of depression and has given me sexual confidence. I am very proud of what I do.

Well done you and its wonderful that you have a great close relationship with your daughter that she was able to come to you and speak openly with you about it.

I do think a paretn who is a swinger should understand more about a persons choice to swing more so than a parent who isnt a swinger as the swinger parent understands the reasons why.

I would never go to a vanilla club on my own as would be shit scared.

I regularly go to my local club alone as I feel comfy. I hope when my boys are older I can be as open and honest as you, well done xxx

Your right its conditioning and part of societies rules for right and wrong. Like wearing clothes in public, eating with cutlery, not looking in someone's house window. In some societies in the pacific extended families live within long houses and no privacy is afforded and its accepted they family members have sex.

Firstly, our kids (26 & 29) know what we do! We had to tell them because of an "Outing" at work! They were fantastic about what we told them and our daughter just laughed and said she was surprised that her parents were getting more that she was!

We have always brought our kids up in an open and honest environment, sex was never taboo (although we did keep it private in the bedroom) and we never had the problems some folk have of no knowing where our kids were! Dinner time was always a real eye opener. We always sat at the table and always had dinner together. The conversation would get quite ribald sometimes...

So, would we be upset or horrified to learn they had decided to swing? Not at all and I can say, hand on heart that we only have one standard, applied to everyone. So whoever it was who typed that we are all hypocrites where our kids are concerned, speak for yourself!

I would make sure that we didn't visit the same clubs at the same time, but that is just because I do have a moral compass that tells me that sexual behaviour in front of kids is just not right! Jed, that doesn't include what you did for your daughter, I think that was a good move and has obviously given her that feeling of "protection" I would do the same...

To say this is seedy or to intimate that you are ashamed you do it, well it just tells me that you have issues that you don't feel comfortable with and like to person who can't resist that last donut even though they are full to bursting, perhaps it is time to get help!

Sort of get the impression that there are a few out there who will never be able to have anal sex… because their head will be in the way

Come on wise up, do you grown-ups think you have the monopoly on sex life?

Had my first (straight) MMF when I was 19, we didn’t call it swinging, we called it having fun with your mates.

First MFMF or rather ‘wife swap’ when I was about 22, we didn’t call it swinging or wife swapping, we just called it having fun with your mates.

In my mid twenties I was having sex with 3 different woman, often all three in the same day, swinging? No, having fun with my mates.

Then main difference between what mature swingers do and what your children do is you call it swinging and you kids just call it sex.

Now just to give it a twist, when I was in my early teens I heard that my older sister had had a gang-bang, basically went through half a dozen blokes in the one evening. Even then I thought ‘lucky sis’ however, if that was called ‘swinging’ it would have also been called ‘a good night out’ as it was, some people when they heard about it called her a dirty rotten slag.

If someone asks me about my sex life, whoever it is including my kids there is a good chance the answer will be ‘mind your own business’ and that answer has never been any different my whole life but I’ve always been totally open in respect of talking about sex and or offering advice.

Hypocrite? NO. Do my kids know about my sex life? NO, it’s none of their business. However I do sometimes think they are missing out by (so far as I know) not being in the swinging hobby.

I am not sure I would be happy actually well if they was in a settled relationship I think I would be fine but I would want a bit more for them trying to find some one they want to be with rather than having swing meets. I know it is hypocritical of me but its taken a lot for me and my hubby to feel ready to do this so I would be uncased if my children just through them selves in this lifestyle with out thinking of what they want or don't want.

While I understand where you're coming from I feel I need to ask, if you found that your son was involved in this lifestyle, would you go so far as to be angry with him for it?

And while I also understand that you want the fairy tale for your son, you have got to wake up and smell the coffee. That very rarely happens. I have 2 boys and while of course I want the best for them, their safety, happiness and freedom to express themselves and choose their own path in life is of upmost importance to me.

Straight, gay, bi, regular sex or rampant swingers, while I may not wish to be in a club with them present (slightly sick to me) I have brought them up to respect. And by that I have to respect them.

Having no children, I can't really answer the op for definite. However, I'd like to think I'd be as open minded as my Dad was when he found out.

Back when I was 18, I was sleeping around something terrible. I was getting d*unk, and having sex, with pretty much any guy going. Most of the time without protection. Most of the time, not knowing his name, or having the first clue where I was going.

I woke my Dad up on many occasions at 3/4/5 am asking him to help, because I'd woke up in a strange place, with no idea where I was or how I got there. He always calmed me down, asked me what buildings I could see, and he'd always find me.

My Dad used to get so upset with me, because I'd put myself in such danger. I calmed down, moved out from home, got engaged etc etc. It didn't work out, and I ended up back living at home. My Dad said to me, he didn't want me going back to the way I used to be. He was too old now, his ticker couldn't take it!!! So I googled swinging and took the plunge.

My Dad was so much happier with swinging then me going out and being really stupid. I always got names, addresses if I were meeting them at their houses. And forwarded my dad any pics I had of them. And I do mean ANY!!!! lol. I was safe, thats all he wanted for his little girl.

Fast forward a few years, and I went home, after one of my many trips to Southend, and announced I was moving out of home and into a house with a swinging couple who I'd met. My Dads biggest concern? Whose going to walk the dog now????

I think as long as our children are happy, and in a secure place, and not getting hurt, who are we to judge how they spend their time?????

I also feel that many of us have been in loving, monogamous relationships and are now mature enough to want to spice our sex lives up. At 21 you shouldnt be wanting or needing to spice anything up as its all new and exciting. My son and his fiancee are in love and at that love hearts and puppy dog stage, they dont need sex with strangers at this point in their young lives. I also dont think its sensible tn do something that puts you at risk of recurrent STI's, oral sex carries a risk, if you are planning babies in a few years.

Well if my son wanted to swing then that is up to him. I dont think swinging is something to be ashamed of or dirty or anything else. At least by being a swinger myself i could give him some (hopefully) good advice.

I would however have some ground rules, be members of different sites and make sure we dont attend any club on the same night.

We all want a perfect world with a perfect relationship and a little thatched cottage in the country for our children but i took my rose tinted specs of years ago

i am disagreeing with this. i dont see this as spicing up my sex life i see it as "my sex life"

this is the way i like sex, the things i do in the swingscene is normall to me and they always have been. even when i am with a partner if we keep it monogamous our sex lifes are always a little more than what you would call normall.

so when you think about younger people weather it be couples or single, take into acount my other post and also take into acount that they could have always been a higher sexual being and normal has never really cut it for them

(this was ment to come across in a nice way not argumentative)

A tiny story, I went to see a friend from primary school. I have known her since I was 5. During conversation I mentioned about my birthday soon and would invite her to the club I am going to be it is slightly alternative.

To this she asked what I meant and suddenly I relasised out of all my friends she was the only one who didnt know I swing.

Bear in mind her dad was a vicar and she is a school headmistress(slightly typecasting but essential if you knew her). I had not a great deal of choice except to tell her ot think of a crdible lie within 4 seconds.

She was horrified.

She couldnt understand it and dashed to the toilets clearly to text her husband about me. So during the weekend with her I did my best to explain it.

She was still horrified.

I left hers to return home (via chams lol). I was glad to leaver hers as she made me feel ashamed of what I do and I have never felt ashamed. I am sexually confident and liberal as she I assume isnt.

It felt so good to come home and be with my family and friends who know and accept this is what I do and love and has been my saviour.

I dont think I will return to hers anymore as just cant do that again.

Thank you for thinking for me and for deciding my opinion and on what it is based, it is nice that we have some people who know everything and can make those nasty little choices for us.

But hang on, I have given a lot of thought to swinging and I certainly don't live my life according to the rules of PC, and wait a minute, at 21 I had been married for 3 years and we were experimenting with 3somes and more, it was part of that growing up feeling, we felt strong and comfortable in our marriage and enjoyed the thrill of doing things differently, our first vibrator, our first game of strip poker as a couple and with friends and much more that we experimented with.

We were lucky, we didn't have people looking over at us and saying "your too young to be doing that, tut tut you should be enjoying sex with each other not experimenting with others, you should do as we say not do what you think you would like to do.

As for those who think swinging is seedy, perhaps you should change the way you go about swinging, nothing Sasha or I do is seedy, nor will it ever be.

We are clean, honest and open about what we do, our families know and our friends know, we don't sneak about doing it and we don't blatantly do it in public.

Neither do we do the lovely non-swinging activities like binge drinking and showing our bits as we come out of the nightclub, fall around d*unk or start fights, vomit in public, have sex in alleyways and cars or sware in the kebab shop.

"Interesting thread but, at the end of the day I think it's human nature to not want to think of their parents / kids having sex, especially wild free mad sex.

I would suggest that this is more conditioning than human nature.

why."

May be because nature drives our sexual desires and it is nurture which puts all the restrictions on it.

"yes it is double standards, as i stated above. I want the fairytale for my son. I want him to meet a lovely girl (he has done, he is engaged and shes a beautiful and lovely person) and i want him to get married and enjoy a fantastic sex life with that one person and have children and have a good job and him to live happily ever after.

"

You say you want what you consider to be perfect for your son.....so why are you here? You obviously don't think that your relationship comes anywhere near this ??

You should only be swinging if you have a strong, happy and stable relationship to begin with. If your relationship is less than this you shouldn't be here till you have sorted out what is happening at home.

If I came upon my daughter at a swinging club or on here it wouldn't faze me as we talk about every detail of our lives and have a good friendship. As long as she was happy, safe and having as much fun as she can I would be happy!

So in conclusion swinging is for old people fed up with their husband/wife and needing to 'spice things up'?

I'll leave now then yeah...

Nope its for happy people with an experimental streak who want to add to what they already have, after all, 2 people cannot have a 3sum or 4sum no matter how hard they try

First of all thank you everyone for your comments, they are brilliant.

Ill try and answer some of the points raised. Yes i am a hypocrite, certainly where this is concerned. What I do and what I would be happy for him to do are completely opposite.

Secondly I was brought up by older parents who were very strict and brought me up to believe that sex was only indulged in to have children, so even though I have always tried to kick out from what my parents views were, I always enjoyed sex but secretly thought it was wrong for me to do so.

Seedy was the wrong word, sorry everyone for upsetting you with the use of that word, what i meant was i view swinging as very naughty in a good way. I was brought up to believe sex was wrong and I have an adventurous side and when I swing I feel like im a different person and I love that. I adore the adventure and the liberation that I can let myself go.

In relation to my partner, we do have a very good relationship, I am a lucky girl. But we are older, we want to put a bit of spice to our sex life, and god has swinging given us that, and i feel that we are mature enough and comfortable enough in our own relationship for us to explore this. Believe me if i was upset over him touching other women or wasnt secure then I wouldnt do it.

In relation to my son, he is young, he is engaged to a lovely girl, they are at the hearts, flowers and puppy dog stage. hes absolutely head over heels, as she appears to be with him, drives me mad with all the lovey dovey stuff i see on facebook or cards they send etc etc. My son doesnt want sex with any other girl as hes never been one for having lots of girlfriends, in fact hes a bit of a skater boy and was only bothered about skateboards and bmx's until he met his girlfriend 2 years ago.

I am happy he is in a relationship and I am a hypocrite to not want him shagging all over the place etc. I want him to be in love and experience a closeness that I have done, and not just see the clinical act of swinging sex because its just the use of bodies for release. I want him to experience a great relationship of trust and love and closeness.

I also dont wnat him risking his health by the increase of getting an STI, and even through the use of condoms, there is a risk with oral sex. he and his girlfriend are hoping for children, i wouldnt want to put him at any risk of repeated infections that could leave him sterile.

At the moment his young life is full of happiness and security and love and wellbeing - I dont want him to experience the soulness act of swinging sex. Yes I do it, but i have a partner who i experience all the closeness with, so i have that degree of happiness as well as indulging in naughty swinging sex. i know that if i was only getting sex in swinging clubs, I would feel a little used but thats not to say that all single ladies are the same, cos the majority of ladies who swing are very mature, confident, go getting career women who know what they want and have the balls to go for it

I think it's the idea that swinging is only for when your fed up with your partner that gives swinging a bad name.

I resent the implication that for some reason young people shouldn't be here they should be enjoying each other. Can't we do both?

So... It has gone from "spice things up" to "Fed up with partner"!!

I have not seen anyone post that they swing because they are fed up with their partner or that they believe that! Indeed, if they were then they shouldn't be swinging!

So tell me, why do you swing? Just because you can or because you enjoy it? I suspect you might just enjoy it and if that is the case does it mean you are fed up with your partner? No and nor is that the case with us. Like us, you probably find it exciting and as such it adds a bit of spice to your lives! Please correct me if I am wrong!

Meeting new people, making friends and playing with them is great. being able to do that does give us more excitement in our lives, different to the normal holidays, weekends away and vanilla friends. If it didn't and we were just being mechanical about it, we would stop!

You're right, no one has said they are here becuase they are fed up with their partner. I'm reffering to the implication seen in your post, among others, that young couples should be too busy with each other to swing. Logical thinking, might just be me mind, translates that as once you've done as much as you can with your partner, then, and only then, are you meant to swing.

I swing becuase we're living out some fantasies (some we had before meeting, some we've 'developed' together) and because it turns us on and enhances our sex life. 'Spices it up' if you must

Altough personally that phrase conjurs up images of middle aged people writingn into Dear Dedrie looking for suggestions on how to spice up a boring sex life - but again that might just be me.

If that was the impression you got, perhaps I didn't phrase it very well. We have been married for over 30 years and we are still finding our sex life exiting, even without involving anyone else.

Enhance: to raise to a higher degree; intensify; magnify (or to "spice up")

Whether it is your interpretation or not, that quote from an online dictionary is what I was alluding to..

But anyway, being middle aged, I had better go off and pen a few lines to "Dear Dedrie"

I haven’t actually done any real counting or statistics but is it not fair to say the majority of swingers are in the mid to late 30’s to mid to late 50’s age group?

Is it not also fair to say that sub-30-year-old couples are not in abundance in the hobby?

And being honest, for those of you who seek single males, is it so unfair to say that the majority of 25 and under single males are far too immature for this game and should perhaps be playing up their own end of the street with a more compatible age group?

Now I’m not saying THIS IS YOU or HER or HIM in particular, just being generally realistic that’s all.

Now if the above is considered to be ‘reasonable’ that leaves us with a majority or ‘typical’ swinger, ‘yes’?

Now another thing, once again, I haven’t run a census so it’s JUST an observation that lots of swingers rubbish the hobby, inasmuch that it generates comments like ‘Well it’s not the be all and end all’ or ‘Puh, I’ve got a REAL life you know’ and the like.

It seems to me that for a hell of a lot of people this is ‘the pub’, or the ‘darts team’ or the ‘knitting club’. It’s a community, a ‘something to do’, a social club, it creates circles of friends, it creates parties the list can go on.

Younger people tend not to need this, yes I said ‘NEED’. It’s quite common for two young people to pair off, get into the building a home thing, having kids, working a career etc. then one day they wake up and find.... no mates! No social life etc. Then we also discover we have lost the social skills we were born with. My kids for example, all grown up, sub-30-years-old they haven’t got TIME for swinging even if they wanted to or needed to. The same was true of me sub-40 and my then partners.

So how about a bit of general honesty and face facts... generally younger people don’t NEED this hobby. Generally this hobby is better suited to the more mature person/couple and you do NEED IT, for whatever reasons, or however often, if you didn’t NEED it... why the hell do you do it? You’ll be taking a hell of a lot of health risks for something that is so insignificant in your life, dare I say ‘just a bit of spice'

First of all Im definitely gonna have "spice up your sex life" as my catchphrase, loving it lol

I certainly dont swing cos im fed up with my guy, nothing could be further from the truth, I think if you were to pull most of my threads you would see how I rave about him, he is absolutely gorgeous and I adore him, no way am i fed up.

I swing because Im living out a fantasy, I feel im doing something naughty, I always wanted to know what it was like having two guys touching me etc, and I wanted to do it before I get too old to and just in case the menopause kicked in and stole my libido (thats a joke by the way, its not an insult about menopausal women)

For my son, hes young, hes in love, he has an idealistic view of life because hes been sheltered and had a pretty ok life up to now. Its not i dislike the siwnging scene, hey im here and I have to say that during the 10months i have been swinging, ive never met so many absolutely lovely and down to earth people, but swinging is about sex without love, we can all agree that cant we. its about lust, its about fantasy, well it is to me, im not looking for romance whilst swinging, I have a guy who give me that. I want my son to experience sex with love, with passion, I want his experiences to be fumbled not knowing what to do and learning and experimenting with his girlfriend, i dont want his sexual experience to be in a swinging club, where his only view of sex would be soulless and sex without love. Most of us have been in love and we all have experienced what sex in a loving relationship can be like. All im saying is that I want him to have this experience, to have meaningful sex, rather than meaningless. When hes older and more mature maybe he will want to find out what fantasy sex is all about, but at the moment I want the fairytale for him, thats why I would be devastated if he was swinging.

In my home, whilst I would talk to my son about sex, its always in a discussion type of way, ill answer anything he wants to ask me, but i would never discuss my own sex life with him or joke or be crude about sex, its just not how I bring my children up. Theres a definite parent/child boundary, but we all do whats best for us

I was a bit of a late starter so to speak so maybe my comments won't be too relevant. I understand exactly where your coming from Iconic HOWEVER I think this is a woman's point of view (forgive me if I am wrong) the reason I say that is this My stepson hit 16 and did his best to shag any girl he could talk into opening her legs, he was not interested in a long lasting relationship he just wanted to get his end away. He is now 38 and since his teenage years I think things have changed, I believe the girls are now just as keen for fantastic pleasurable sex and nothing else as much as the boys.

There is so much more information on the net, telly in schools etc the "mystery" the used to surround sex has long been smashed to bits.

Although it would never happen I wonder what your son's view would be ?

Ok I'm back out now. Why should the younger swingers out there be put in a position where they are basically being told there must be something missing from their lives if they choose to swing?

And who the heck NEEDS to swing?

I don't think I'd be 'devastated' if our sons decided they wanted to go to a swingers club or whatever - I'd be 'devastated' if they got a serious illness - or worse. I think most people are not really ashamed of what they do but are aware of the backlash from other less aware or tolerant people in general society. Z

That’s the trouble isn’t it, its not a question of being ashamed or not, the fact is the majority of people outside of the hobby would either just not get it or be jealous or intimidated by the fact some of us do.

We really enjoy this hobby, the sex in all honesty is only a small part of it. It provides a fantastic social platform, we don’t go short of party invites, typically they are different venues in different parts of the country, different people, some familiar faces and pretty much always interesting regardless if we like a person/couple enough to be friends or have sex with them… what other hobby provides so much?

We want to be able to enjoy it in peace and not spend all our time trying to justify it to family, friends, the rest of the neighbourhood and work colleagues.

And of course it still remains it's no one else’s business what we do with our lives. I'm certainly not ashamed of my salary but that doesn’t mean I want the whole world to know about it.

In our younger days, didn't need the swinging hobby to provide any of that, we already had it.

So you need swinging as a social life?

I see the differnece now. We have a social life outside of swinging. We have a social life together and seperatly and don't rely on swinging events to provide us with that. We really enjoy the social side of swinging as well and it's a great part of this but its not our only social life and we don't 'need' swinging to provide us with that.

All you said just cements the idea portrayed that swinging is only for when something is lacking somewhere which I don't agree with.

O o O oo

I thought I saw my daughter and her partner on a profile on this site and after the initial OMG look who I have found on here, I thought , "it looks like they are enjoying themselves".

It turned out it wasn't them, but, I obviously know what my reaction would be if I did find them swinging.

To the other comments of being too young and only old people swing because hey are bored and need to spice up their sex life.....we were talking about this last week.

We have both been married before, and with our previous partners there would have been no chance at all of even bringing up the subject of sex with others and Mr Rugby said that he wished we had met when we were in our 20's as we could have been swinging for a longer time......but if I am honest, I probably wouldn't have done at that time. My views were totally different then and I don't think I was mature enough at the time. I think maybe in my 30's would have been a good time to start....so I can understand what the OP is saying about her son.

As for old people swinging to spice up their sex life.....it seems that is what a lot of people think...but for us, we swing? as an extra, it doesn't replace our sex life.

I read a poster before a min ago aying about needing the swinging life.

I dont have a social life(hardly any) outside swinging. For me swinging is my sexual life(as single)and my social life as in going to clubs and meeting people. I dont feel comfy going to a pub alone or club. I do feel comfy going to a swing club alone. I dont go to the cinema alone as I feel uncomfy so havent been in some years.

I have many friends outside of thi life through my volunteer work and school mums. They are all married tho and have the money for drinks out etc occasionally. I have to always budget my money and do it carefully. So to get an invite to go our friday night isnt going to happen for me as havent budgeted it in. Same an eve at a club or meal out has to be planned in advance and budgeted.

Do I need swinging, yes I know I do. Am I proud of it, yes. Could I live without it no dont think I could.

I love the social side of it and it is my pub club and cineam all rolled into one. Has it replaced my vanilla social life, yes in many ways but still have connections with vanilla friends. When I began swinging it brought me out of myself and gave me something to smile about and I love it.

All the weekends I am child free I try to meet people for fun as it is often the only time I have. I do also do normal things that weekend like watching dvd etc. But given the chance I would rather have a swing meet/social meet all weekend than do vanilla stuff all weekend so do try keep that balance.

All you said just cements the idea portrayed that swinging is only for when something is lacking somewhere which I don't agree with."

Not sure whether you are being deliberately obtuse or you really just don’t get it! I believe when people talk about the “need” they aren’t talking about need as when people need a drug or need money to pay a due bill. I believe needing to swing is about making friends and having a social life after the normal activities of life gets in the way of friendships in your 20’s and 30’s. Let me explain from my perspective…

Like most people our age, we had a tough time starting to build a home and buying our house. Then along came children who took up just about all our time. Money was always short while we started our first business, so yes, we did neglect our friends and lost most of them over the years.

As has been alluded to in an earlier post, I also found it difficult to relate to strangers (make friends) once I realised what had happened and although I had business friends, I realised that I also had a business mentality. I was dealing with people on the same lines as my business acquaintances. So I needed to get involved with a clubs or societies to kick start my old self.

So, what did I have? Religion, the largest club of all. I believe the reason most people are religious is that sense of belonging, but certainly not for me. The Rotary Club? No, it is not an inclusive club, wouldn’t find many ordinary people there (And yes, I did know most of our local members!) There are other interest groups I loved. Motor racing in some form, but again mainly people with money. Local historical society… excuse to sit in their private bar and be insular!

Then we discovered swinging! People from all walks of life. People with opinions, even if I don’t agree with them. People of all shapes and sizes. People with many and varied wants and needs… All things to all men (and women) and a bloody good place to be. So yes, I need swinging because it is MY social club and despite my sometimes outspoken ways, I do have more friends within the scene than I or many other have outside.

I don’t know whether you have had children yet or whether you have started a business or indeed have had to move away from you home area away from your school friends. I suspect not.

Tired of lying in the sunshine

Staying home to watch the rain

And you are young and life is long

And there is time to kill today

And then one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run

You missed the starting gun

(Time: Dark Side of the Moon. Pink Floyd 1973)

That kinda sums it up for us. Missed out on all those great times we hope you will have and now (for the last 12 years) trying to claw it back.

Good luck to you x

"So you need swinging as a social life?

I see the differnece now. We have a social life outside of swinging. We have a social life together and seperatly and don't rely on swinging events to provide us with that. We really enjoy the social side of swinging as well and it's a great part of this but its not our only social life and we don't 'need' swinging to provide us with that.

All you said just cements the idea portrayed that swinging is only for when something is lacking somewhere which I don't agree with.

So, my cunning plan is working, Baldrick! Just have to find where this "Darkened Room" is...

My lord, I think I have it!

Yes Baldrick, I can smell it from here..

No My Lord, I think what you are looking for is in the yard, I have seen a (whispers) Dark Hen down there... It must have a room?

THWAK!

Thank you for those last few posts (you know who you are), you found a better way I think of getting my point across.

While the idea doesn’t obviously apply to everyone there are some where I have to stand back and envy the amount of free time they have for recreation and the apparent capacity to maintain an interest in things that 99% of the time bore the pants off me, day to day family stuff, the same faces (and moaning) of the people at work, the neighbours who live such mundane lives they have nothing better to do than make up gossip about other people, “Oi, Mrs Jones, them at number 20, I think they are homosexual perverts” etc.

Having dedicated most of our lives so far to the work/house/children thing there has been little time if any to have some recreational life and as I said before it’s all too easy to loose the natural skills we are born with to make friends. Out of the other side of this there is no other way to put it… Swinging is a FANTASTIC hobby that fulfils so many things that we enjoy, and to reiterate for us at least, the sex aspect is only a part of it.

Suspect again.

You're right - I maybe just don't get it.

Ok so you don’t get it... what I don’t get is why you seem to misconstrued things into something that sounds derogative! Such phraseology as ‘Swinging is only required when something is lacking’!!!

Ok, so I’ve just got in from work, got a bit of time spare before I go pick the misses up from work. There is nothing that needs doing in the house so I’ve got time to fill. There is sod all on the telly that is of interest to me, net result is I have some spare time that I ‘need’ to fill else the next 45 minutes will feel like a week. The swinging hobby right at this point in time is fulfilling a ‘need’ I NEED to occupy myself for 43 minutes and so I ‘need’ the swinging hobby just now. I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing, don’t want to phone my big sister just to hear all about her latest illnesses. I don’t want to go talk to a neighbour just to hear a load of shite about other neighbours, neither do I wish to chat about the price of carrots at ASDA compared to Tesco. Haven’t got enough time to wash the car or the dog, I haven’t got time to fix the leaking gutter etc.

Do I want to go to the pub to create a social life? NO not my thing now.

Do I want to join a gun club to create a social life? NO been there done that.

Do I want to join a motorcycle club to create a social life? NO been there done that.

Are you getting it now?

Swinging...

The social life comes to me via my PC/Internet/Phone. Get a few minutes spare, well I can reply to emails, write some emails, read some forums, post on some forums. Over the next few months we have parties to attend and while there we will meet a great diversity of people from all walks of life, from road sweeper to business owner and so it goes on.

Do we ‘need’ this swinging hobby ‘YES’ because it suits us, pretty much every other form of creating and maintaining a social life that we can think of doesn’t suit us or doesn’t interest us and the crap that goes with most other forms of social life we really can do without.

So ‘does swinging fulfil something that was lacking in our life?’ YES. Actually it fulfils a hell of a lot of things that were lacking in our life. Least of which is sex, we have a great sex life that stands up on its own and NOTHING we have experienced sexually in swing has come anywhere close to what we have together. Am I fed up/bored with my misses NO, is she with me NO, not sexually, emotionally or in any other way.

Did either of us ‘need’ swinging sub-30’s-40’s NO, there was no need or time for it.

Do we understand why younger people might want to swing? NO, sorry we don’t, never went short of anything that might be gained from the swinging hobby. Because of the fact of youth and limited experience EVERYTHING was more interesting, we had more time, we had more disposable income... tomorrow didn’t seem to matter so much as it was so far away with plenty of time.

You, like anyone else has a life that is unique to you as is your perception of life. NO ONE is saying, NO ONE has said there is anything wrong with that although perhaps your perception is telling you something different and maybe that’s where your life/perception and my life/perception divide into different directions.

That's the thing though, that doesn't seem to be getting through. We're not going short of anything that we need to get through swinging. That's, perhaps, where the difference is. Young people might want to swing not becuase we've exhausted every other form of entertainment (as demostrated above) but becuase we want to.

Points seem to getting lost here - I'm fighting a losing battle it seems. I've seen loads of 'young' swingers on here having to justify their choices to the older group and it's a bit tiring really.

Good luck - I'm glad you've got a hobby you enjoy.

BETH X JAMES...

It was only this morning after reading you most recent post that I looked at your profile and realised your age. Just so that you know that for my part at least this has only ever been a debate/discussion on a theme and nothing personal.

However it would be interesting to get some stats just as a matter of interest…

How many single males – age grouped?

How many single fems – age grouped?

How many couples – age grouped?

… and so on…

Trouble is on this site if you run a search for types it always seems to return 300
