Cheese and garlic calzone

Jump to: Newest in thread

Somewhere in North Norfolk

A pizza place I used to love in Hampshire used to do garlic bread calzone, which was the dough folded over and pinched at the edges with the garlic butter and cheese inside then baked.

They were amazing. The garlic butter was liquid in them. They were the nearest thing to sex it was possible to order for delivery!

Nowhere up here does it. Does anyone have a recipe for making it myself, please?

If I use ready made mini pizza bases, roll them a little thinner, put the garlic butter and cheese on them, fold them over, pinch the edges and bake them, will that work?

I'd start from scratch with the dough to make it really worth it, you'll probably need it to be a bit more stretchy for a calzone than the ready made ones are capable of.

Place near me does a spicy meat feast calzone thing which may or may not be the reason none of my jeans fit.

I have no idea but it sounds amazing..

Actually my old boss used to make a Jamie Oliver pizza dough that she raved about and she would freeze some too.

You're probably right about the dough. I don't do cooking though and despite my best intentions, I know there is zero chance of me making dough from scratch.

I also happen to have a packet of ready made pizza bases that need using.

I shouldn't be thinking such things really, as I'm on a diet. I can't be good all the time though, right?

Aren't the ready made bases too dry? The ones I've seen are often more bread like than doughy? Wouldn't think they'd survive being folded in half x

Serves makes 6 to 8 medium-sized thin pizza bases

1 kg white bread flour or Tipo '00' flour, or 800g strong white bread flour or Tipo '00' flour, plus 200g finely ground semolina flour

1 teaspoon fine sea salt

2 x 7 g dried yeast sachets

1 tablespoon golden caster sugar

4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

650 ml lukewarm water

They are amazing. You bite into them and the garlic butter dribbles down your chin.

I've just found a Jamie Oliver recipe for cheese and garlic calzone online.

I could be falling off the diet wagon tonight.

If you're going to break the diet for something you need it to be worth it and not a disappointment! Ready made bases are generally a bit more bready.

That's very true. I haven't used a ready made base before, and I've no idea why I bought these ones, so I had no idea what to expect of them.

This could be a sign I am not supposed to be eating garlic and cheese bread!

We do these at work, another great is rolling out dough putting it through the oven and eating it with natural yogurt. Obviously everyone's dough recipe is different, we've also made choc based pizza's which is very hard to do, the possibilities are endless when you have the equipment to hand. One of our favorites is making a omelette because we can use any ingredients

Off to the supermarket it is!

a mix should work, maybe add a little more warm water than its says as well as extra olive oil...when ive used them for regular pizza they needed more oil and water..

Just recently I don't though. I've done nothing treat-worthy lately.
