"It certainly does stand still in Swansea, especially when you're trying to enter or leave via Fabian Way. "
Its a fucking nightmare, I often visit the King George playing fields for sport, a 45 minute journey can be doubled just because of traffic from the Marina onwards |

Don't say you weren't warned...
I spent two years working in North Wales, and discovered, upon presenting my English Hertitage card with the words "But it IS an English castle isn't it?", that they are still a little touchy about certain things
Still, I'm sure the radio said the clocks had stopped at midday, not 1277... |

Time stands still at every traffic light on red in Swansea. Might as well turn the engine off and have a snooze, but I can't as I'm too busy moaning about how long it takes for the lights to change... |

To be fair, 15 years ago we came to Derbyshire for a job interview. We decided to come up on the Saturday so we could check out the area and view a few houses. We arrived at 12.10 on the Saturday, to discover that Derbyshire basically closes at midday on a Saturday, until Monday 9am.
The only thing open the whole weekend was the Little Chef.
Two years later the Little Chef closed
It's a bit better now, we have a supermarket, and digital telly (so long as you don't mind it's for the West Midlands, and not where you actually live!)
So when M Farage says he wants to take us back to the 1950's, omg, we've only just left them!!

Problem with most towns in Wales is that the English are moving here in huge numbers especially from "cor blimey" country, is it so bad living in England? |

I'm guessing you didn't see the report about Swansea's Official Clock Winder retiring, and the resultant headline (which the thread title quotes).
It was certainly a more fun thread on the radio, and in my head, and if Swansea hasn't got anyone official to do the winding up....
I am sorry if you don't get my humour, which is more often self-deprecating than not, but I accept I can't win them all. |

"Pretty shitty city...."
In reply to my post the above post is what I was replying to if people find humour in that then my apologies for having a different and therefore weird sense of humour?
I have been to Swansea on many occasions and always found the cities inhabitants good friendly people.
Its the people that make the place not the attractions or venues. I am English give me Swansea over cities such as London or Birmingham and Leeds any day.
To the other post branding all jacks as Ukip voters I don't think such ignorance is worthy of a reply. |

I'm English in Wales and it's only from living here that I discovered what a hatred a lot of Welsh have for the English, often disguised as "friendly" banter.
It kinda shocked me tbh. And it makes me defensive and I find myself saying some of the same stuff back, when I shouldn't rise to it.
I do get frustrated by the lack of a lot of amenities locally, but then again we are in the middle of nowhere. Nice beaches and stuff, but I'm a city girl and miss that.
We had to move here for reasons beyond our control. We are finally back off to England soon. |

Wales is lovely in the right areas, but very defensive in others... However saying that, I've also found the same the other side of the border. My ex was from London and his friends never had a nice word to say about him moving here..... Until they came, and said they felt like they were on holiday. Sun, sea, promenade, wine outside as the sun sets etc. I love love love where I live. |

Oi, don't take this personally, but stop slagging off Leeds.
Especially when Dewsbury, Batley, Halifax, Bradford and Huddersfield are ahead of them in the queue and are a much more deserving cause. |

I like where you live too, was there again last weekend because I love the daisy and jack shop for my daughter. I also love where I live, I'm actually born and raised in Porthcawl and lived here all my life but don't put it on my profile cos I try to be as vague as possible. Steve Strange's funeral is tomorrow so it's gonna be rammed here!
There's good and bad parts wherever you are, I don't like the big cities cos there's too many immigrants there if I'm honest but Swansea is not as bad as Cardiff for it, but as a welsh person I'll still defend any part of Wales if it's being slagged off by people that don't even live here. |

O.M.G!
I can't believe you're slagging off God's own country, the land of the Brontë sisters, The Railway Children and Last of Summer Wine! The happy times I spent cycling to Huddersfield to buy records, or Dewsbury to buy those little metal studs so I could spell 'Quo' on my denim jacket...
There are so many other places ahead of them in the queue for slagging off, such as {insert three random English towns here, one Welsh and one Scottish one, (so they don't feel left out too)}

Unfortunately, that's not possible. Evertone is perfectly entitled to have an opinion, and voice that opinion. I'm another person who dislikes Swansea immensely. I'm there often to visit relatives. It's neglected and dirty with that sad air of 'abandoned'. Hopefully, the new uni will raise the monetary input and need for improvement.
It's sad that the money needed to make it more attractive to live in was given to Cardiff and the council have made the disposal of household waste so effing complicated, most of it ends up strewn across the streets. English is my native language and it's bloody complicated so I've no idea how non-English speakers cope!
Swansea bay is stunning and we spend many, many hours there when the weather is good. It's just a shame that the rest is so sad looking and driving up and down constitution hill is a nightmare!
The old quarry is wonderful, as are some of the secret places not often frequented (that place with the waterfall and flat bed river whose name escapes me) but the bland marina and damp, badly cared for housing is depressing.
As for Parc Tawe, really? |

Glad to hear it.
Just so you know, the phrase "Time stands still in Swansea" came from the website of.....
..yep, Swansea Council.
It would appear some of them have a sense of humour, and an inkling of how a story such as this can raise the profile of an area, thus bringing in investment and tourism.
And if you look really carefully, I didn't say a word about Swansea...

It could be worse, I married a Maesteg Valley girl.. Lived in Bridgend for 15 years before moving back to my native Derbyshire
Personally I think Swansea is nice, but prefer Cardiff.
No difference on the sheep, although I find the Welsh ones push back harder
I get down once every 3/4 weeks to see the kids so its been nice seeing the progress of SA1,New Uni campus etc ...
Bringing my new swinging FB down this weekend to show her the "sights" |
