I did have a quick look and put my name in, the bloody thing can't say it, everytime it said is that right I told it no and it said it wrong again |

Nothing special about cortana.. just copying pretty much every other phone on the market. Its identical to Siri and Galaxy. Had galaxy since I got my phone. Of course Siri is a load of rubbish and 'serious' all the time, galaxy can be quite humourous at times.. |

I like Cortana - just changed to the UK version, after switching from the US version I've been using. Haven't used the apple and google ones for comparison.
Overall, iWindows 8.1 is a great phone operating system and Cortana adds well to it. I use her for text notification and replies, setting alarms, navigation to places, mostly things I do frequently and the functionality is developing. I did like my old keypad phones as texting etc on touch screen is more cumbersome but speaking is typically much easier. |

Doesn't it concern anyone that devices that respond to a certain phrase or saying on command 'Siri..', 'Ok Google' etc, are effectively listening to every word said within range of the device?
Most of the speech processing is done in 'the cloud' by server farms - effectively its recording your voice and sending it to some nameless corporation?
How long before tech like this is used to spy on citizens? |

It does bother me, though the security services have been activating microphones without it, for some time.
Most of us are carrying the perfect bugging devices, at our own cost. |

"I keep thinking its called 'Cortina', which having looked at Windows 10 about sums it up. "
I'm hoping they don't automatically update my phone to 10 then. |

"You can either get updates automatically or just when you search and download yourself. It's an option in the settings area. I'm guessing we may not all get 10, as some phones are Lower specs."
Mine probably is. I like it how it is so I'm not bothered |
