Anybody else watching this?
Such a refreshing change to see people getting fit and healthy, losing weight but unfortunately still having a lot of excess skin. |

"Doesn't the NHS provide cosmetic surgery in these cases?
You have to be a certain weight or meet a criteria"
Think I'll stay at 19 stone then and a healthy BMI of 39
Not everyones cup of tea but we can't all be the same. Plus a firm believer in there is someone for everyone *shrugs* |

No it's very difficult to qualify and any body fighting to get help has a huge battle on.
Sometimes your left feeling like you want to put weight back on just to fill the loose skin.

That is actually quite sad to hear
And sobering in some respects. |

I've been a size 8 up 34 I lost 8/9 stone.
There's no easy solutions
I'm not sure I want surgery even if I could get it pass the panel that decide. I know clothes would fit better, but the surgeries and scar's worry me.
It is what it is |

I've been "chunky" all my life. And I am currently the heaviest I've ever been. Men 'wear' fat slightly differently which is only one small consolation for me *shrug*
With my weight as it is I am a prime candidate for bariatric surgeries etc. But I agree with you, such a scary path to embark on.
I've got to how I am through a lot of comfort eating and lack of exercise. Ironically, even though I am this big I've decided to start loving me for who I am, wobbly bits and all! So emotionally I'm at one of my happiest points.
Take me as who I am or not at all. Learning to not give a fuck about what people think or say anymore!
Apologies for high jacking your thread with my musings! Should be doing IT work as I am on night shift, but talking on the forums is far more fun |

I used to be 27 stone and I had a gastric bypass done in 2007. Due to the weight loss of 12 stone I had a huge amount of excess skin and boobs in the wrong place. I have had 2 tummy tucks, breast uplift and implants I am due to have my 3rd tummy tuck and thigh reduction this year and also at some point an arm reduction... |

So far the breast uplift and implants have been the most painful. I have been told the thigh reduction is going to be painful as well.
Thank you its not easy and since 2007 I have put on 2 stone so on a mission to get it off ready for surgery x |

I did exactly that...lost 5 stone, put 4 back on. Felt disgusted with my body. At 28 I has the arms of a 70 years old. I might be fat, but i'm relatively happy! |

He's very lucky. Some people have elastic skin, some don't. It's genetics not the type of diet that determines saggy skin. |

A friend of mine lost about 12 stone and was miserable with how she looked. The nhs wouldn't help her (although they would of paid for gastric surgery but she did it on her own!) but her grandad have her her inheritance money early as he said if would be worth it to see her happy. She had arms, tummy tuck, lipo, breast uplift and implants. |

If you work hard and tone as you loose the weight this also helps. I'm sorry but too many ppl take the easy option these days. Another friend of mine lost 7 stone and has been left with terrible legs. She was told because she turned the gastric band down she would have to fund the cosmetic surgery her self x |

He is very lucky then. I was left with some loose skin on my lower stomach just from losing 3! (The healthy way). Luck and genetics plays a big part in how your skin will react. |

You can tone all you like, lose weight through diet and do as much exercise as you can but sometimes you just don't have the kind of skin that can recover. This is incredibly presumptuous. (And the story sounds like bullshit, that's not any NHS guidelines I'm familiar with!) |

This is what I've said to my mum. She's in her 50's. 10 stone overweight and it's now causing her problems with joint pain etc. she seems focused at the moment and I'm trying to cheer her on so fingers crossed she sticks it out this time around. X |

I've been losing it slowly to try an avoid the excess skin problems. Over 6 stone in about 2 and a half years. Things are still beginning to sag
Its my own fault, caused by years of gluttony and laziness. |

The key seems to be to go slowly. My partner has lost over six stone, I think, over a couple of years. He doesn't have any excess skin at all and it's all quite elastic and in good condition. I think it probably helps that he eats really well, has a properly balanced diet with lots of vegetables and so forth that are good for your body.
Luck of the draw to some extent though, most likely. |

"I'm trying to lose a few stone but after reading this thread I'm seriously worried about being left with loose excess skin now. "
Try it slowly, with lifestyle changes rather than crash/fad dieting.
I suppose its weighing up the risk of some excess skin (if that happens) against the health benefits.
Perhaps discuss it with your GP, who may refer you to a dietitian who may be able to allay your fears. Or join a weight loss group and talk it over with other people who are going through the same? |

Blimey. I've been hovering around 14 stone for years (the heaviest i've been) and not been happy about it, but reading these comments makes me realise that there are many others with bigger weight concerns than me.
Ideally i'd like to get back to 12 stone. |

She wouldn't of been told to gain weight. There will be criteria for any surgery and gastric surgery is for above a certain BMI or weight before you get it. It would of been her decision to gain extra weight to make it possible. |

I've been reasonably lucky, I went from a 44in waist to a 32 loosing about five stone in the process, I managed to work out enough and nothings been left loose...except a little bit down the bottom of my tummy, bit even that is slowly slowly going...with the aid of those most horrible of things...situps....situps as far as the eye can see....
They won't get it perfect but I feel better for doing them....so yeah, I'll keep doing what i can.... |

No plastic surgery isn't available on nhs it funded through your local health commission. You have to apply for funding. I was lucky and was accepted for all of my surgeries xx |

Sometimes the skin is stretched beyond repair which is what happened in my case. The only way that the skin was going to be dealt with was with plastic surgery. X |
