Researchers reveal average penis size 'to reassure men'
Settling a debate: the study's authors hope it will help people with body anxiety

It is a question that men are known to debate at length - what is the average size of the male appendage?
Now a London university claims to have the answer; 3.6 inches when flaccid.
Research carried out by King's College London - taking in measurements from more than 15,000 men - found the average length of a flaccid penis is 3.6 inches (9.16cm) and 5.2 inches (13.24cm) when stretched but still flaccid.
And the average flaccid penis' girth was revealed as 3.7 inches or 9.31cm.
Erect penises were found to have an average length of 5.2 inches (13.12cm) and a circumference of 4.6 inches (11.66cm).
The study, by university academics and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, was aimed at helping inform counselling for men who are anxious about the size of their penis.
The research included analysis of penis sizes from men of all ages and a wide variety of races. It is the first time graphical diagrams have been created to show size distribution of flaccid or erect penises, King's College said.
Dr David Veale, lead author of the report in the British Journal of Urology, said: "We believe these graphs will help doctors reassure the large majority of men that the size of their penis is in the normal range.
"We will also use the graphs to examine the discrepancy between what a man believes to be their position on the graph and their actual position, or what they think they should be.”
It is hoped the research will help clinicians dealing with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and inform how penis sizes influence rates of condom failure.
Dr Martin Baggaley, medical director at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, said: “BDD causes a person to have a distorted view of how they look and they can spend an obsessive amount of time worrying about their appearance.
"This can include worries over their weight, specific parts of their body and, for men, the size of their penis. This can take over someone’s life and cause a great deal of distress.
“Hopefully this new study will help reassure those many men who are concerned with their penis size and assist clinicians dealing with BDD |

Or, men could just stop taking the piss out of each other's cock size from a young age and/or lying about their own, and then a generation of men might grow up who don't need this counselling in the first place. |
