Why do people feel the need to put professional before there title? I work hard am I a professional have done for 35 yrs, so what makes you a professional and does it make you better than anyone else? Think some people on here think they've just fell out of ferrero Rocher advert or a 80s German porn film |

I think that people make too many assumptions about what people are implying by the use of that word. It's simply a description just like curvy, slim etc and if it isn't what you want no need to contact the people using it. |

Interesting, I have a professional qualification, but my job now is anything but. So not sure which camp we'd fall into.
And rather than an 80s German porn film, we tend to live in a 70s British one...
("Ooh, matron, watch where you're sticking that thing")
I wouldn't worry about it.

From a sociological standpoint it refers to the groups in society composed of highly educated professionals and middle managerial level workers. I imagine people put this on their profile as they prefer to find friends of a similar view point and with things in common. |

We describe ourselves as professionals partly because we are but primarily because the inverted snobbery on threads like this never ceases to amuse us.
The term professional is an adjective. It describes us. Why shouldn't we use it? We aren't looking down or boasting. We use many adjectives on our profile yet this one is the only one we ever see threads complaining about. |

"I think some people just like to try and make out they are better than others."
Lots of people think thst using the word professional means people believe they are better than others but I don't know why. I think it means that people feel those people are better than them and it makes them cross. |

Well since you asked..according to wiki;
'A profession is a vocation founded upon specialised educational training, the purpose of which is to supply objective counsel and service to others, for a direct and definite compensation, wholly apart from expectation of other business gain'
In other words - Lengthy study at a university resulting in degree attainment to be used in careers to help others such as teaching/medicine/law

"This is a general opinion and I'm nit saying it applies to the op.
I think that often people object to certain descriptions because of their own insecurities."

Me too and would never go back to my old career, I am no longer in a professional field and work for myself and I love every second of my job.

To be fair its done what it needed to for a site like this. If you have taken offence of it it's made you think these are people I don't want to meet really due to their views..
So no different to a single girl classing herself as a bbw and that putting you off. |

I would definitely fuck someone who had just fallen out of a Ferrero Rocher advert. Especially if they brought a tower of them along. Or were an actual ambassador. |

"Why worry about something so trivial. We're all the same when we're bumping fun parts "
this
Why does it matter.....use the word or don't....it's not snobby as a stand alone word, the whole of the profile gets the character across you'd hope. You can't pick out one word from a profile and judge someone on it without some more context.
And who cares about someone's education/profession anyhow? It's the last thing I care about if I want to talk to someone or sleep with them. |

We haven't quite formed an independent state yet, so you might have to be a trade attaché rather than a full-on ambassador. |

Sounds like a job for me, hosting posh parties and spoiling sexy women with lots of lovely chocolate, I think I'd be rather good at it! |
