Internet Shopping compared to seeing items prior to purchase .

I have had two lessons this week which reinforced to me the importance of seeing goods before you buy them.

1. I purchased a. braclet as a present in Argos but them one which I received looked completely different to that in the catalogue . In my eagerness to get the task sorted I failed to notice that there was a good display stand of bracelets in one part of the store . On this occasion it did not matter as the recipient of the present really liked it anyway . 2. I needed to purchase carpet for both hall , stairways and a room. I made my selection from the shops internet site and then asked them to cost it . I was then advised that I had chosen a top of the range carpet which was probably not necessary as other carpets were just as good ..I went into the shop to day, was able to see loads of samples , made a selection and got just as good a carpet which was manufactured locally at a much lower cost . The internet may be a great marketing tool but it is always best to see goods in person before making a purchase . The experience of discussing you requirements face to face with the retailer is also invaluable .

No 1: should have said something along the lines of 'item maybe different to photo'. I wanted to buy a particular doll from a cartoon series she likes, on Argos website I wasn't guaranteed the one I wanted as it depended on stock so I whilst shopping in asda, I checked out the toy shelf and found exactly what I wanted at the same price

No 2: I'd never buy carpet online, would rather go in store especially as I'd have missed out on the Lino remnant for my bathroom

I think it depends what you're buying too. Certain items are fine such as make-up you've bought before or food items.

I prefer to buy clothes in person as sizing can be an issue. There's also the issue of texture - you can usually get an idea of the look of something if the pics are good quality but you can't see how the fabric will feel or drape.
