Hiiii.
I'm thinking of starting the gym to become super hot rather then the just hot I already am
I'm a little apprehensive though as I'm not small and scared I'd get laughed at and be known as the fatty at the gym. Even though I'm going there to rectify it.
Also any tips on what excercises to do etc to help a newbie get started?
Thanking you. |

Diet and all round cardio to start - consider circuits/insanity/body combat rather than weights/machines.
I'm sure Shag'll be along in a minute but for now I'd stick to all over workouts - you need to get your metabolism increased to start your body to metabolise the stored fat.
Less in than you use - you WILL lose weight.
Once you start then you can consider introducing toning exercises.
Don't get too hung up on scales - use a tape measure.
What most forget is that fat is 20& of the density of muscle.
Start building muscle and they believe they're gaining weight rather than dropping inches. |

Seek out a trainer at the gym and speak to him/her about putting together a program and a nutritional program that suits you.
Everyone is so individual, any advice you get will be what works for them and more than likely won't work for you.
That said, start gently and build up the intensity when you're used to the level you're at. |

I used to go to the gym I admit I was paranoid I though all the women would be hot gym bunnies, when I got there I was shocked I was one of the slimmest women there OK there were some fit birds but most women in there were obese, that's the point of gyms people are usually to busy to notice you |

Maybe. I suppose it's just how I see it. All my friends are slim and have no problems. And when I do pull I always feel like its a joke or because there's no one else. |

Just go and book an induction. Most gyms have a personal trainer come up with a basic plan for you exercise wise. If you want to do exercise at home have a look at the 30 day challenges. Squats. Abs. Etc. |

One of the benefits if being older....not giving a fuck what strangers think. Let them laugh....which I doubt they will anyway. They will be there for the same reason as you and I doubt anyone would even notice you. |

on here I get attention 24 hours a day. When I go out I get none. Which is probably my fault for expecting men to be like they are on here. Even when I meet people from fab I always think that they'd never ever speak to me if they saw me in a bar or wherever. Sometimes I feel a bit like a novelty. Which is stupid I know |

Lots of very overweight people are prescribed gym sessions, I saw some very large women there and nobody laughed at them. I also saw a very elderly man supported in by two people and put on a rowing machine...the poor thing . I've said it before don't imagine people see you the same way you see yourself. |

30 day challenges aren't what you need - isolating individual areas comes later.
As an alternative look at one of the Sofa challenges - they aim to take you from the sofa to say 5km over a defined period.
Big fitness returns and good weight loss too in those.
Other bonus is most are free - internet/youtube is your friend |

Honey you've just at least doubled in my estimation! Great to know you're as insecure as the rest of us! My gym is a typical gym, and has people there of all shapes and sizes, most of whom are nice.
As has probably been mentioned, 80% of weight loss is down to diet - but exercise will help to increase your metabolic rate (particularly if you do cardio), tone up as you lose weight etc etc. Would suggest concentrating on cardio/fat burning initially - anything that increases the heartrate significantly. General fitness classes are fun too and help the time go faster whilst you're getting fitter.
Good luck - and you may find it helpful to join the '2015 fit and healthy' thread that many of us use. Xx

To be honest that pretty much sums it up for most women on here, I think a lot of men message women on here they wouldn't look twice at in real life, they just see us as a quick easy shag
But I think you can tell when a guy does like you
If you only get one offer every 6 months in the real world the chances are that one guy will think more of you than the 1000s of offers you'll get on here in that period
Not that any of this has anything to do with the gym |

The reason you get more attention on here than in real life is not because men wouldn't look at you in the real world, it's because it takes more guts to actually make a move in real life. Believe me, coming from a guy who in his 30 years of existence has NEVER been hit on, not even once, yet on here the last six women I have met are all women who contacted me first.
The internet plays by a different set of rules. |

I disagree with the no weights just cardio idea. I've shifted over 3 stone since September and i would say 90 % of my exercise has had some weights involved. I would say get yourself along to some classes, maybe body conditioning, pump, LBT, things like that. They are better in my opinion as an instructor is there with you all the time so will make sure you are doing stuff properly rather than just wondering around a gym. Anyway hours of cardio sucks!! Lol x |

Bodypump, Bodycombat, Circuits, etc all involve weights to increase resistance so increasing cardio effect.
My suggestion to avoid weights/machines is just that. So many times I've seen it where the "instructor" has someone doing exercises because it's what they've been taught/told not because its whats best for that particular person. So they will have them on the Smiths Machine, Rower, Bicep Curls, etc.
The types of class I suggested will tone at the same time as burning fat due to the nature of the exercises involved. |

I'd join in with classes that are high intensity for aerobic stuff I.e spin, insanity etc,and find a strength training program to stick to.look up marc Lauren for bodyweight programmes if you have a flaky injury prone body like me. ..don't be like the foolios who go and put zero effort in,are scared to sweat and spend most of their time on the phone...
If you are trying to lose weight then gym work will only help you slightly really.you need to look at your diet for weight loss...i did it about three years ago.cut out all crap, started eating clean and cut the booze intake down.I lost two about two stone of fat,and got my body fat down from 30% to 11%...I'm up to 15% now which is still good, and allows me a a few extra glasses of wine on the weekend. |

I'm at the gym 6.30 every morning apart from the week end when I have a bit of a lie in. My advice would be don't give a fuck about what other people think. Do it for you. Don't focus to much on your weight but think about the health benefits instead. Be in it for the long haul. There is no quick fix. Book an induction with an instructor who you feel can inspire and motivate you to meet your goals. Good luck |

If it's for your health, join a gym and focus on cardio. If it's to get a guy (outside FAB) do you want a man who likes you for who you are rather than how flat your stomach is???
Your body and face are a winner! No need to change if your happy with who you are x |

Nobody will think any less of you in the gym, everyone started somewhere, and most of the time I'm in my own workout 'bubble' anyway, and I hardly even notice other people.
I have no idea why people are recommending cardio over anything else - yes, cardiovascular fitness is good for heath, but a lot of people (me included) find cardio a bit dull.
There are plenty of decent lifting plans aimed at beginners - see "new rules of lifting for women" or "strong lifts 5 x 5". You should incorporate some form of resistance training into your overall plan anyway to retain muscle as you lose weight, so you will end up firm as opposed to carding your way into "skinny fat" territory.... |

Depending on the gym you decide to go to, they will most likely provide you with an introduction session (often with a PT) and they will show you around the equipment etc.
After that you can take it at your own pace - get familiar with the machines, watch other people to see what they are doing, and generally settle in.
One of my big hang ups when i first started at the gym was the worry that there would be loads of body beatiful people there, posing around and generally looking for other members to have a good laugh at.
This is not the case, I can assure you. Most of that type are normally "in the zone" and not bothered with what is going on around them.
You will be surprised the mix of people that you will see in the gym - all with one thing in common - wanting to get healthy, lose weight and keep healthy.
Keep that in mind and I am sure you will be just fine
I use a gym in the North East

NO ONE And I mean NO ONE will
Ever laugh at you at the gym. This is a huge myth and misconception about the gym. You won't find a more friendly, more knowledgable and enthusiastic bunch of people In your life until you go to one.
I stated at the gym coming off an eating disorder at 7st4lbs. I was scared shitless about going think I was going to be a laughing stock. But I was wrong. Everyone helped, everyone encouraged and everyone admired that I was there to change and now I'm 11st. People go there to change and it creates a big brotherhood amongst lifters.
Your first time at the gym starts in your head. Even thinking about going you've achieved something. Motivation ain't shit. Discipline is.
You'll do good. Just tell yourself you will |

Honestly...
Hit the weights and skip the cardio...
Do super sets of 8+8, works heart and burns fat, builds muscle, that eats fat in your sleep...
Loads if women say they still wanna feel feminine, but the hottest women I know are 40+ and lift, they are toned, hard body's, the gym is easy for them now and they need to do little to maintain.

Agree with everything you've just said apart from just supersetting 8 + 8s - especially as a beginner, its much easier to use an existing programme, this ensures you get your progressive overload etc built in.
I'd go string lifts personally, but have heard very good things about NRLW... Or you could check out one of Jamie Easons programs - he is all about the curves. |

Just gone back to the gym today after a while off. Dragged a friend along with me for moral support. Now on the post workout happy floaty stage and back at my desk to do work feeling quite motivated!
When I was going to the gym I was doing more weights than cardio as I just enjoyed it more.
Making the initial trip back is the hardest but you'll get there.
Good luck!! |

I have never felt intimidated when at the gym. Quite the opposite actually. Most people pay no attention to you as they are too focused on their own workout or chatting to their mate and you can wear headphones and listen to music or watch the tv on some machines so won't notice others.
Just go, you'll be fine. It's all in your head. As others have said, there's all shapes and sizes there. |

Do hula hooping, do that every day, start out at 5 minutes and every day increase by 1 minute.
Cut out any crap like chocolate etc. Try it for 30 days and see how you get on.
You'll lose weight on your hips and keep the weight in your purse |

The dirty little secret of the gym is that it's an arena where we do battle against our own insecurity. Everyone... I mean EVERYONE... at the gym is there because there's something about their body they either a) want to improve, or b) have improved it, but are fearful of letting it slip away again. The numbers on the scale or clothing sizes may be different numbers, but the struggle is the same. So no one's going to judge you because we're all too busy judging ourselves. |

"My advice? Honestly? Don't go to the gym. You're fine as you are."
Yeah self improvement is terrible don't do it.
Really?! That's terrible advice.
To the OP: If you want to improve your fitness then go get em! It's all in your power to do so! And to those people who may look at you? Why do you think gyms exist? If we were all super healthy already then gyms wouldn't have a place in this world.
Good luck and never give up! |

It's the lad's in plimsolls that do my nut in.
Spend more time on their bloody phones than working out.
For us it's all about being healthy, if we can look better while staying healthy then that's a bonus.
Would never knock anyone for being in the gym no matter what age or size,as long as you don't hog the equipment have the decency to wipe the equipment down after you sweated all over it,and don't spend 45 mins of a 50 min workout texting while using equipment that other's want to use.
Phew.
Now breath and relax. |

Ok point one
Not everybody thinks that gym bunny women are attractive. Attractiveness is a lot more than just looks and body shape.
Point 2
The gym I go to (which is at the local swimming pool/leisure centre and council run)is full of all shapes and sizes. Plus the different types of exercises are kept to seperate areas, so the power lifting six pack brigade are no where near.if I am honest the fatties tend to outnumber the fitties.
Point 3
I like to use This analogy to describe body shape. If you had a Ferrari would you rather blast down a dead straight autobahn where there is nothing to stimulate you, or would you rather be driving through the helps taking the curves and bends whilst looking at the gorgeous view whilst listening to matt Monroe singing on days like these... I know which I would enjoy more xxxcxx |

Funny you should mention things like that. I was at the gym today doing some stuff and a guy was on a bench on the smith machine doing incline barbell chest press type things. He finished and left. I was gonna finish my sets and have a bash myself and a young lad came up, got 2 dumbells, sat on the bench under the smith machine and started doing dumbell shoulder presses staring at himself in the mirror.
After id finished laughing (and sending pictures of him to ejay to laugh at too) I told him that if he wasn't gonna use the smith machine he could move so that others could! |

Best of luck with the gym thing. i was lucky and found a gym near home, very friendly bunch. I've had a few offers to "spot me" during weight training.
Working on Mike Mentzer HIT style training with sessions every 7 to 14 days. Steady progress.

First you need a goal (this can change again once you reach it) Then you need to plan. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail! Rough estimate would put you between 27 and 31% body fat. They say there's 3,500 calories in 1lb of fat so just by cutting your daily calorie intake by 500 a day you should lose 1lb a week just by making a change to your diet. Research meal plans before you start the gym.
As for joining the gym, have a little idea what you're going to do before you get there, that will save you wandering round aimlessly, that's more noticeable than someone turning up doing their routine then going.
I like to train legs twice a week. SQUATS are your friend, on Fridays I'll use the rack but Tuesdays I'll change that to hack squats, leg press, calf raises, leg extensions, hamstring curls. I do walking lunges on the treadmill! Some people look at me a little strange but I don't really care! You don't have to do legs twice a week but I always have cos I've done kickboxing for 21 years and before that ballet since I was 3 so my legs have always been pretty strong.
I'm quite an apple shape and I put weight on my belly. You can not spot reduce fat on any part of your body. For your belly to go you'll have to drop fat from everywhere, if you do a shit load of ab exercises without losing fat all you will do is strengthen the muscles but still have layers of fat covering them. I need to be 18% bodyfat and under for my abs to show. I'd concentrate on cardio for the time being, I haven't done a kickboxing exam for 6 years but when I had to lose weight fast I used to do a lot of speed skipping with a weighted rope. Can pick one up off eBay, the goldsgym ones are ok for that. Oh and download the my fitness pal app and log EVERYTHING that passes your lips. It will help you keep within your daily allowance.
