Hmmm difficult one. I sometimes wonder if i myself could even narrow it down to an album of the year list. Must do it one day.
Two contenders though (outside of greatest hits/compilations):
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

That was one of mine Pink Floyd but then another then another pops into my head, to be honest even though I started the thread it might be an impossible task
Parralel lines Blondie would be close too
