I have just been watching two Newcastle United players trying to say a number of geordie phrases in a geordie accent. Now I love French accents and can confirm that these two speaking in geordie does it for me!
Have you a favourite accent and if so what? Also do you have any favourite words that are very much only associated with where you are from?
Gan canny |

"How come no English people ever say an English accent? Well you know what, that's what does it for me. A nice, normal, Queen's English accent."
There is no "English " accent
So many regional accents and dialects that you can't just call anyone an English accent
Same with Ireland, depends in where you live there is a difference
Up here in Scotland is similar we also have different regional dialects and sounds that split the Scots accent

So why only reply to my comment? I specified 'Queen's English', whereas are just generalising (ie: Scottish, Welsh, Irish). |

Not just ANY Geordie accent.
I dunno what yours sounds like."
Apparently I am 'not that geordie' whatever that means. Definitely not Geordie Shore! |

Just thought I'd say I HATE regionalisation and if it was up to me every part of England would speak the Queen's English.
I left North Yorkshire in 2003 and moved to Dorset. Since then, I have always made a conscious effort to annunciate every word properly. |

I like well spoken too, however I am pretty proud of my Geordie accent too. I am proud to live where I do and the accent is synonymous to that (for me).
There's nothing right or wrong with an accent, I wouldn't judge someone based on theirs. Some are just more aurally pleasing to others I guess! |

When I lived up in Sunderland many years ago I'm pretty sure my accent was responsible for the vast majority of the sex I had!
The question i got asked a lot was
"will you please say my name again"
I need to move back to England!

A lot of my relatives lived in Surrey when I was growing up and my best female friend is from there - she (and they) had a bit of an accent, but I couldn't pin it down further than South-East probably.
I honestly do like a cultured, but not overly pish English accent!
Is there a Tidworth in Surrey too, or are you exiled?
I've heard of the place, but I thought it was Bedfordshire before googling! |

Being from Durham I don't really have an accent. Sound Geordie to southerners and seem a bit smoggy or Yorkshire to some people. Defoe a Geordie when I've had a drink though. However I love an Irish accent or Scottish!. |

Interesting topic. Historically speaking there's no such thing as Queen's English. Received pronunciation is a hyperbolised version of the home counties accent. Until relatively recently - 150-200 years most monarchs and royal families spoke European languages as their first language and so had European accents. Probably as most were born or raised in europe. |

Queens English, is a fairly modern accent. Lots if others are far older. They have a better claim to being nationalised. But that's neither mickling nor muckling. |

1) Australian.
2) That lovely Southern American drawl (but the speaker HAS to have a deep voice).
3) South African.
4) Spanish.
5) Irish.
6) (a good description was used earlier for this one) The Queen's English (I.e: Hugh Grant, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry).
