Used to hide mine when i didn't want people to message me.
Sorted my filters and blocked a lot of people and my inbox isn't too busy for me to handle now. |

A couple of my friends are currently hidden because they're not looking for anyone at present, either because they're only here for the forum/chat or they're just too busy in real life, it saves them getting inundated with mindless messages from desperate guys. |

I hide mine from time to time when I'm taking a break, it makes more sense to me than to keep deleting your profile and re joining
Hiding my profile simply means not looking for now |

I hide mine sporadically throughout the day. I've found when I hide no one messages me so I can manage my messages better and don't get inundated when I'm busy and can't reply. It works for me rather than having a million filters. |

I'm not meeting for a little while but using the forums and chat rooms and chatting to acquaintances already made. If I hide my profile new people don't message me who are looking to meet |

"It seems more like a female thing, means they can look without you seeing them looking"
Er, no it doesn't. That's browsing in stealth mode which is a different thing entirely.
I always browse in stealth mode. I only hide my profile when I'm taking a break or can't meet. |

We're currently taking a break and hiding our profile stops people messaging us.
We used to put up all the filters and put it on the profile but anyone we've spoken to before would still message and we couldn't be bothered to keep repeating that we are currently not meeting.
We do not want to delete our profile as this break is temporary and we don't see why we should lose our verifications, current friends and have to set up a new profile ect.
To us, it just makes more sense. |

Having a break and not able to meet anyone new at the moment, but I still like to read the forums and have existing contacts on here I want to keep in touch with. |

"What purpose does it serve ? "
It takes you out of searches when you need a little break or time to catch up with what you've currently got going on,so it serves the purpose of having a bit of peace |

I've often wondered about this. I regularly look at profiles simply to learn a little more about a person, either so I can better understand something they've said in the forum, or so I can make my reply relevant. When I find a profile is hidden it simply makes me go . It sometimes feels as if the person talking in the forum feels they have something they wish to hide, which I find sad.
"Don't want messages"
Couldn't this be done by simply clicking the mail filter? 'No men, no couples' should be sufficient surely?
(Not that I'm saying people can't do whatever they like, just that I thought hiding meant 'taking a break from the site'.)
Just sayin', please don't hurt me...

It can mean all of the above or something entirely different...its individual to each person, and if others don't like it then its tough really...people can do what they want with their own profiles. If a hidden profile is still receiving unsolicited messages then more fool them for sending them |

I agree about if it's just to stop messages for a bit of time to catch up. Blocking men and couples and being a straight woman cuts them down to pretty much zero! I hide mine when I'm not looking to meet anyone though, as I feel like the information and the pictures on there are only relevant if I am. Saves me wasting anyone's time or mine. |

I took some time out not meeting as I had an op and needed recovery time, so I hid my profile for a few weeks, and then just wrote "not meeting, only on for the forum" until I was back properly.
It saves people messaging and getting upset when their messages are not read. |

Just sad when people feel that they have to hide, for whatever reason. Even though it's almost certainly me reading too much into it. I'm just a worryer.

When i need to take a breather. To just take a step back from all this when it dampens my 'mood'. Or if the site becomes something that i'm no longer looking for.
Etc etc

Sometimes I get fab overload. Just too many messages to deal with. Too many nice guys I'd like to meet but just can't. Sometimes I've been ill or on holidays. It's a shame to waste peoples' time if I'm not actually able to meet. But it's the perfect solution if you don't want to leave the site. |

"I can't meet at the moment so I don't see the point in "advertising" myself.
I'd rather not get messages than have to keep saying I can't meet at the moment."
Yet post in forum thats advertising |
