When I first heard of the planned mission to Mars, I thought these people who are actually volunteering, must be crazy. Then it occurred to me that their mind set is not so different from the very first explorers, who sailed the vast oceans, not knowing if the world really was flat, and they weren't going to fall off the edge, or to a lesser degree, the first explorers into darkest Africa. None of these people had any idea if they would ever return home safely, indeed at all. Someone eventually has to make that very brave decision if mankind is to progress in space exploration. |

Unless Fab works there, few of us would go.
I tend to the opinion that most space trips are an enormous waste of money, detrimental to our our world's climate, through fossil fuel burning. We could lower death rates, invest in health care and research and do far better things with this cash than exploring some small cocked guy's need to go further and further. |

Unfortunately, a lot of major advancements in human achievements are only made through projects that appear to be total money wasters, or even warfare. There is no denying that the second world war was devastating, but some major advances came as a direct result. Its just a shame that human nature is that way. |

I agree totally. Not sure its possible, but then we would never make any advances if we always played safe. There will always be those who hate change. I am sure the change from horse power to machine was shocking and frightening to many. |

Would'nt it be a better idea to build a manned base on the moon first before going to mars?
Its seems like the next logical step to me after the International space station. After the moon base was up and running well then go onto Mars and beyond, sort of like stepping stones over a river, don't get ahead of yourself, lol. |

I must admit, I have to agree. I think the environment on Mars is more hospitable than the moon, but I know what you mean. Running before you can walk etc. |
