Does anybody know the etymology of swinger/swinging? I'm thinking the word first started being used in the seventies - but why? A hangover from the 'swinging sixties' ....or 'swinging from the chandeliers'? ....discuss.... |

I always believed it to have originated from the Joan Collins movie's The Stud and The Bitch
There's a famous scene where she's in a swing over the indoor pool?
That's what I've thought the swing gave swinging it's name...

They said the sexual freedom league in Berkeley USA coined the phrase first in the 60's
Although it actually started without the term swinging in the 1940's among USA pilots whose shortened mortality led them to live in the moment and the remaining or surviving men serviced the widows |
