It's shocking, none to be had in any hardware store for miles around. I really needed a length of rope for my old block and tackle at the weekend, how else was I going to fish Lassie out of that hole? |

I planned ahead and always carry a rope. Handy for those towing cars, rescuing maidens in distress etc.
It is a bit depressing seeing the influx of "lets make our own 50 shades" nonsense in peoples status.

50 shades was reviewed on BBC News Film review last night and didn't do too well.
The comments that stood out for me were that 'the director has tried very hard to make a good film out of a poor story' and, when comparing to 9 and a half weeks, described that film as 'being pretty vanilla' |

You know, I haven't read the book, nor seen the film, but I'm surprised at the mixed reaction.
I love a bit of light BDSM and playing the dom, so I guess, if its heightened awareness, that's a good thing but, lets be honest, it will always be viewed as kinky in the vanilla world.
Seems to me the writer of the book really hit the mark, and it was aimed at the uninitiated. Bet they're laughing all the way to the bank. |

A lot of people think the books are a misrepresentation of the BDSM scene because, unfortunately, Mr Grey is not so much Dom as abusive with psychopathic traits. There are incidences in the book where consent is withdrawn yet he carries on which is assault/rape. He tracks he phone to stop her leaving as he says he'll always be able to find her. He breaks into her apartment. There is none of the aftercare which is important after doing a BDSM scene. Basically, there is a fear that people who havent explored BDSM before might think that that is how you go about being a Dom/Master and that people might end up being hurt.
I don't know if it was to do with the 50 shades phenomenon but a group of lads turned up at a fetish event I was at last week. They were trying to pull girls and one even got hold of a flogger and hit my friend's bum as she walked past without her consent. This is what people don't want to happen.
On the other hand, I think 50 shades has also introduced some new people to the scene who may have never thought about trying it before or been too nervous to, and if you have fun trying new things then that's great. And it gives a chance for BDSM communities to come out and show/tell a better way of entering that sort of relationship |

I am too. It's only a film and books, a story, that is all. Does it matter that to some it's unrealistic, not as good as the story of O that people on here keep mentioning.
I will go and see it if my friends want to, I read the books, they were ok, I'm sure the film will be ok. I don't feel ashamed of enjoying them, I don't feel it insults my intelligence, I'm not interested in real life bdsm books, I view it for what it is, a bit of entertainment, nothing more. |
