"One line messages - what is wrong with it? "

If successful, nothing.

Most profiles seem to frown against it...

If I walk upto a girl in a bar I start the conversation with a simple "hi how are you" I don't chuck out my cv so no. Sometimes it's hard if there's nothing on a profile to coment on aswel. But also you do need to stand out.

"Less is more?! "

That was my thinking at least it saves time, such as when a profile doesn't state their preference and their profile might not have something to start a conversation with, you go "I was wondering if you might be interested in..."

My point!

"Depends on the message."

Yeah, like when a profile says just looking. Would a one liner not be a good opening?

We have done one liners to full on description what we looking for which they ask for in their profile and deleted lol. Bit of a mind field but once you find mutual fun. Worth it.

Depends on whether the effort has been put into the profile.

Nothing is wrong with it but the vast majority of the time I just delete them.

If you want to cut your chances of a response down to virtually nothing, go right ahead. I'm sure the guys that make an effort will thank you.

It would be like applying for a job by sending just a covering letter reading, "Hi, I'd like this job".

But it's entirely up to you.

I don't mind a one line message as long as it comes with a facepic... hate a message that just says "hi"

If the message comes from an outstanding profile then one line is more than adequate

This is true, but few do.

I also have to fancy the person sending it, obviously.

I find the essays too presumptuous. They invariably go on about what they will do to me and how I will react as if I have no say in it!

Just around the corner

I think I've had equal success with one-line messages and more lengthy efforts. That said, the successful one-liners are most often in direct response to something the recipient has put in their status.
