What Printer to buy?

looking to buy a new desktop ink printer/scanner for doing normal office work, scanning, and the odd photo printing on A4 from home. The things that are important are the running cost i.e would like to use compliable ink cartridges or even refill them up myself? also the power when the printer in sleep mode.

There are 3 that seem to have good reviews are: Brother DCP-J132W-Epson XP422-Canon Pixma MG5550.

We really need your views to which way to go.

The last printer we had was a Epson R300 now retired after 11 years .

Many thanks for taking the time to help us choose which way to go from here.

If anyone has a new Epson Stylus Photo R300 Print head I'm interested .

I think printers that go wrong should be used for the new form of torture instead of waterboarding!

Titz Towers, North Notts

For the FORUM INSURANCE claim forms, I need to use a sturdy and reliable printer due to high demand, hence I opted for a cast iron steam powered jalopy constructed in the People's Democratic Republic of Wallachia. Ink costs 3 florins a gallon, but is only available in a choice of 1 colour - rainbow.

We have a brother, it's even prints both side, scanner, photos ect. Also having a wifi connection is a god send. you can send things to print via your phone and all computers and laptops in your house. Wouldn't have anything else!

I now have a canon mg 3250. Great little cheap printer, does double sided printing, scans, airprints, photo prints, copies, only takes two cartridges, which I buy remanufactured from eBay,bought it from eBay new £23 pounds.had a Lexmark 805 prestige before, another great machine, but to expensive to run,and if it wasn't used the printhead would block.

I also have a Canon and a high volume HP.

I buy print cartridges in bulk which works out 25% cheaper than the cheapest available outlet for both.
