Does anyone have an iPad? Are they worth getting? What do you use it for?
I'm finding myself mysteriously wanting one although I'm not completely sure I understand what they do. |

Typing is on one now..
Expensive sure.. But i use it for a number of things
Work and personal email
Surfing
Kids playing games in the back of the car
Kids watching movies in the back of a car.. We have around 300 movies inside iTunes that we can sync a stack up for holidays and car journeys
10 hour battery life
I bought the wifi not 3g version.. And pop into star bucks when not in a work or home wifi spot
Saying that i may use mi fi when the payg time limit disappears
I also use to for note taking at work and for various work apps that i am using
I also have ibooks and the kindle app so use it for reading ebooks and work PDFs
Yes a low level MacBook could do all of this., but it weighs not a lot and for the videos alone on long work rail commutes worth it's weight in gold
Although the predictive text may make some of my profile answers interesting

Interesting.
I saw it as a 'touch screen laptop' so to speak so it may not be worth getting in that case as I only had this laptop in January.
I saw an advertisement for the Amazon Kindle and am quite interested in that too. It may just rekindle my love of reading. |

I want one to download books to. I can get rid of all the paper ones we have here then.
I reckon news items will be delivered to them in the future too, and we wont have our houses cluttered up by endless reams of newspapers. |

Definitely not a touch screen laptop or a full replacement for a laptop
The screen for eadinng is fine but it cannot be used outside or in light where the reflection will cause a problem.. The kindle is much better and has none of those problems
I used it outside whistle sunbathing and had to put a cover over my head and then e ipad auto he'd itself off with a too hot message as well..
But i was unsure myself before buying,, but now am totally sold and it goes in the man bag and work bag..
I didn't have a ipod touch or iPhone but if i had one of those then some of the apps i use may not justify an ipad as well
I also use the iPad to control my ipod docking stations, the apple tv and iplayer and 4 on demand as well.. Which all come out of the tv |

I have an iphone which is just a small version of the ipad.... in fact i am just cheeky and call it an Ipad "Mini"
its not the biggest thing memory wise (only 64gb) but if you use it like i use my Iphone.. for reading and newspaper apps it is suppose to be fantastic......
I can't justify getting an Ipad as my Iphone is 32Gb and that is so much I never use anything near it all...... |

Have a child who is an Apple nut, really wanted one but couldn't actually think of anything he'd use it for. That seems to be the basic problem: fantastic solution to a problems, you just need to work out what the problem is.

Best wait for the next incarnation! They deliberately left a webcam device off the first one so those that bought early would by again!. The next one will have more functionality as well.
Just had a Nectar email with the Ipad at £429 + 1700 Nectar points. Not bad when you consider what an I-anything costs these days. Just for the name! I actually saw a childs pushchair called "I-Candy" cashing in on the unfathomable need for designer names!
Personally,I will wait for the rest to catch up and they WILL be better equipped than the Ipad, because those arrogant buggers at Apple know that people will buy the Pad cos it has an "I" in front! Should be a couple out this side of Christmas...
But that is just my opinion! |

I reckon I will wait anyway. I've thought of a couple of other things I want to spend the money on 1st and it will give me more time to see what comes out and decide what I'll get best use out of. |

Thats what Apple have been doing with the iPhone since launch.
The first iPhone couldnt send MMS or Bluetooth, had no camera etc yet 90% of other phones did this. When the next iPhone came out with a camera, the adverts for it made it sound like it was a new invention.
Same with the iPhone 4 ads, showing video calling.... I was using a video phone back in 2002 ffs... but yet again, Apple making sound like they the only one to do it.
I have a iPhone 3 (from work) and although its dreadfully slow, the interface is quite slick to use!

I have a 3GS now and this is about the only think keeping me from going all geek and getting an iphone 4 now,
so I am going to wait till next summer to see what comes along (they always release a new/updated version every june) how sensible yet terribly frustrating of me...... |

I have to say I do find my iPad very useful for casual Internet and gaming but this morning I have posted about 6 posts on here which is the most typing and copy n pasting I have done and it isn't as easy as doing it on my Mac. |

yep, if you've used a touch or i-phone its simpy a laptop sized one of those
i wouldn't buy it just yet as first gen apple products are notorious for problems that are fixed by 3rd gen
what can i say - i was married to an apple geek lol
