I love a good museums I love finding out new things etc. What is your favourite museum? I love the Victoria and Albert museum, natural history museum and the imperial war museum and the science museum.  |

Oh I couldn't choose just one....
Went to the National Museum of Scotland with a friend just before Christmas and we got kicked out at closing time....had been there almost 6 hours and hadn't managed to get round all of it 
All was not lost though....we went to the pub 
I love Scotland Street School in Glasgow - old primary school with building designed by Charles Rennie Macintosh fabulous building and very nostalgic seeing old wooden desks and ink wells |

Oh I went to that years ago I forgot about that one. I also went to a holicaust museum in Israel and I saw my granddad name on a plaque there as he used to take the danish Jews to Sweden on the blue boats during the second world war |

Yeah it is, although I think it's now called the emergency services museum because it's expanded. Good fun though, it's (partly) set inside an old police station so you can go inside some of the old cells |

That would be both heartbreaking but also inspirational "
Yeah it was a shock to see it, he never spoke about his experiences but what I understand he saw a few friends shot by the Nazi's. He hated anything German after the war but I never met such a warm, loving man in my whole life apart from my dad. |

I love the classics. Science, Natural History, V&A. I also like small local ones in whatever place I happen to be and those weird little quirky ones you kind of spot by accident. I still haven't managed to make it to the Hunterian though and I really want to. |

Blist Hill and the Back to Backs in Brum are well worth a visit as someone mentioned previously.
I have never been to the Black Country Living Museum although it's on my door step. I ought to go.
Although not a museum the National Memorial Arboretum is worth a visit. It's so moving and very beautiful. |

Great museums in Stoke on Trent too - world class stuff! I love design and ceramics.

It's a "living" museum and many say it's the best museum in the UK.

Best part of working in training many years ago was different city every week and finish work in time to catch last hour at different museums.
I do hope you have all signed the petition to keep the diplodocus in the entrance hall of the natural history museum. That made a big impact on me when I first saw it from about 3' tall eyes. |

Two museums off the beaten track - "Altes Zeughaus", Solothurn Switzerland biggest collection of armor in Europe from 1445 and "Venustempel" Amsterdam a very different kind of museum but good to have seen once in a life time |

I love the natural history museum in London, I can spend all day in there, and still not seen all of it.
The Wellcome collection is also a favourite, they do some excellent temporary exhibitions, currently doing a sex one. They did a tattoo one a couple of years ago which was amazing.

Chamber street museum in Edinburgh is amazing.
But they are in the middle of refurbishing a lot of it so lots of things you can't see at the moment. They had a great section for Ancient Egypt but it's all closed off. Buildings beautiful & can't wait until it's all open again.

The Pitt-Rivers in Oxford has shrunken heads too! It's like a load of people came back from their jaunts to strange places with all kinds of oddities as souvenirs and they just got jumbled together anyhow into cabinets. It's a great mumuseum, especially with children because of the slightly gruesome element!
The John Soames museum is great too, especially if you're interested in ancient rome or have been to any if the major roman sites.
I spent a fabulous day at Batemans, Rudyard Kiplings house which is national Trust. I love my national Trust membership because you get to see the whole picture, objects in their place and you get to see how all the inhabitants of the property lived, not just the fancy bits. |

The Pitt-Rivers is one of the only (the only?) museums left in the UK that follows a layout that subscribes to Social Darwinism. It's been purposely left that way so that people now can see how we thought of other races and nations in the past.
It's fascinating to visit it in the same day as the Ashmolean in Oxford - which has a very contemporary way of curating that is much more recognisable to us.
My favourite museum is the Tate Modern. Although I went to New York last week and MoMA and The Met were both pretty incredible - and fascinating to see how Americans view the world. |

The Design Museum in Copenhagen is worth a visit to see how everyday objects have evolved over the last century or so.
I can't believe no one (okay, none of the blokes) have mentioned the Tank Museum in Dorset.
For historic houses, my favourites are Clouds Hill: TE Lawrence's cottage near Bovington (and the Tank Museum ), and Castle Drogo, Edwyn Lutyens' early 20th century masterpiece. |

Highland folk museum, Newtonmore is great. Very like Beamish, that someone mentioned, same basic idea. Take old buildings, dismantle them and rebuild them all in one place. Best bit of all is its FREE. Who says we Scots are tight?
Covers a two mile site and has folk there in period dress to tell you how they used to live from the 18thc up to the 50s/ 60s.
Very hands on and big play park for kids.

London is blessed having so many excellent (free) museums. I also live just down the road from Duxford, which is excellent.
My job takes me to some fantastic places. This year I've been to the Aquarium, and MIT and Science Museums in Boston, The Natural History and 911 Museums in New York, The Gaudi Park and House in Barcelona, Sex Museum and Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Popov Museum and a military exhibition in Ekaterinburg and the Fortress in Vladivostok! |

For me this year it's going to be magna carta, so the British Library, Salisbury Cathedral. In fact the British Library is one of my favourites.
For something eclectic has anyone else been to the Pitt Rivers museum in Oxford.
