Dealers are going to be few and far between, the residual values poor, and as a relatively new launch I'd expect a few gremlins still to surface, on the up side it is cheap. |

When mg rover went tits up for the last time shanghai automotive bought what was left, including the rights to the mg brand. Vw do a lot of 'brand engineering' so a skoda fabia is a seat Leon is a vw golf...the same underpinnings (which brings down r&d) but marketed to each brands perceived strenghs and buying habits. The mg name has a long long sporting heritage that the manufacturers hope will rub off even though it's not a 'real' mg. |

I wouldn't say avoid at all coats, I do think they need a couple more years to establish themselves and build a reputation, it took Skoda 20years to move from bargain basement to saged knowing nods of the head. The thing is they're pitching them cheap to gain a foothold so I'd expect the next generation to be an improvement but that won't be for another 4 or 5 years, that's when I'd consider taking a chance on one. |

Yes and no, in that particular example vw need to shore up their price point and offer a compelling reason to pay the vw premium, on the other side of it is that they offer the up/citigo/mii at varying prices even though the only differences are cosmetic, same platform same engines same production line in the same factory so vw have to tread a fine line of maintaining the vw brand but not at the expense of their skoda/seat brands. Same thing with the aygo/c1/107, gt86/brz, so yeah waffling now but don't be put off by a cheap price or attracted to a higher one and vice versa. |

It all comes down to driving & type of. Motorway, city, length of journey, how long you plan on owning, boot space, passengers(not the band), time behind wheel. Pains me to say but keep away from MG. Kia are ok at moment as are most older brands. |

You have to drive it, then decide. I really want several different cars but unlike you I need lots of leg room, so after a few miles the cars I want get uncomfortable.
Really like your accidental underwear,
I always advise hiring one first for a couple of days see how you feel after some town / traffic driving and also a motorway trip. That may be difficult with a new model as you may struggle to find one for hire.

As for the engine, It is not just get up hills and reach 70, one of the most important needs of an engine is 0 to 30, my second car is very poor on acceleration so can be hard work pulling out of junctions into traffic.

Mg have never had the best reliability in the world and given they are now chinese owned and their experience as a motor manufacturer is fairly new, there would be better options out there |

I'm afraid I will never go anywhere near anything with a MG badge on it.
I'm afraid that along with the Rover brand, it has been tarnished by a long succession of poor quality products.

If you insist on the new car road there's a new mazda2 and Skoda fabia due this year so there will be big discounts on old stock, still flash enough to get the neighbours curtains twitching. |

What car review sums it up. Better looking at a best seller like the ford Fiesta or a canny buy the previous model Skoda fabia to save money over the new model. If low mileage petrol rather than diesel. For me any car than gets a review saying the engine is weak best to avoid. |

If your looking for a cheap small car I'd be looking at a new vauxhall corsa or Adam ,ford ka or fiesta or go with a Hyundai or kia, they've came a long way in build and reliability in the past few years,. |

Gut instinct = avoid.
It will be worthless when you trade it in.
They have no track record to date.

The car is pretty funky looking, it's built ok and I definatly look at reviews from online as a guideline rather than taking it on gospel truth!!!
I wouldn't pay cash outright for any mg as they loose to much money or hp finance. If you really want one you would have a PCP deal as you are covered if the company no longer trades here for whatever reason x |
