Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I've just come back from seeing Selma.
David Oyelowo did really well as a Brit playing an iconic African American.
A really powerful film, not just because the subject is powerful but because every performance was spot on. The edit and storytelling had us in tears.
Go and see it. |

"Can't wait for spongebob either"
I think they'll enjoy it if we go and see it but there's a bit of reluctance that Spongebob may not be as charming on the big screen and away from Bikini Bottom.
Go and see Selma and just think of it as history.

thats the big issue... i have been to see it, i thought it was really good... but the arguement in the states at the moment is that as a "historical" piece... its not as accurate as it could have been... especially the relationship between Martin Luther King and Lydon B Johnson where a lot of artistic license has been used to make it more cinamatic |

It's a propaganda piece to placate the black community while america Systematically tries to rewrite it's history |

I'm aware of that too. Also that the MLK Foundation wouldn't give permission for use of the famous speeches and footage.
Fifty years on I expect that artistic licence is applied.

Wow.
Just wow.
Amazing what one man can do to another just for the colour of his skin.
I found the saddest bit was on the credits though:
Girl #1; girl#2; girl#3; girl#4; girl#5.
I wanted their actual names remembered and written down somehow. So they wouldn't be forgotten.
Go see it

I really enjoyed Selma as a piece of entertainment and agree that David Oyelowo was very good as MLK.
I hope that it gives _iewers a desire to learn more about the American civil rights movement and especially the people who were on the front lines but not the headlines.
I have to admit, I am wary of projects that Oprah Winfrey is involvement in though. |
