"If I'm asked I delete, it clearly states I don't talk about my job!
If It states I would never ask
Ohhhhh plenty of people do!!"

I've asked the question before as I'm quite happy to say what I do in general terms and would only expect a general answer in return. It's only part of a conversation after all - I'd ask the same if I was chatting to someone on (e.g.) a night out.
Some people don't say, some do but the whole "don't dare ask me" element of that strikes me as somewhat self important. But that's only my opinion. |

For the last 10 years I've made my living as a rhinestone cowboy, riding out on a horse in a star-spangled rodeo. Yeah, I know. A rhinestone cowboy. Getting cards and letters from people I don't even know, and offers coming over the phone.
Total waste of a decade. |

"No,I don't care what job a person does. It sometimes comes up in conversation though. I don't ask personal or private questions of someone I don't know "
Same. Don't like people that ask. |

I've been asked plenty of times, I say I'm a secretary, which is true.
I also get asked where I live a lot, I say near the Ferry, also true.
They don't get more than that. I'm happy to talk about my hobbies and interests, but not my personal life. That stays separate, until we become friends. |

I can see why some people get confused and frustrated on here, because when they ask for advice on writing their profile, they are advised to be honest and true to themselves, and something that will grab the attention of the type of people you are looking for,but when and if you start chatting the advice that has been given here is generally don't talk about anything personal or ask anything personal as it may get you deleted, its only being polite and having some common interest if you ask the type of work you do, you don't have to say where and who for. |

I always ask as I'm genuinely interested. Similarly I'm happy to state my profession to those I meet but I choose not to reveal the industry/employer details. |

Yes some people can be a bit tetchy if you ask some questions in conversation.
I had a couple i was chatting to once and they were telling me that it's school holidays so could not meet.
All I asked was "oh how old are they then" all inocent like and right away was told that his missus said that I wanted to know too much and that she had now descided that she did not want to meet now LoL.
I for one do not care if people want to know what I do for a living as I'm a slef employed courier and never in one place long enough for it to matter |

Been asked plenty of times what my job is....often direct people to the company website as its easier than explaining at times....and yeah, I ask too....I talk to folk on here as I would normally and if the conversation turns to jobs then I have no issue with folk knowing who I work for...
Worst they could do is e mail the boss with the fact I'm on here and what I get up to....no real issue |
