I've lived on my own since aged 17, and I was grateful for anything I could get at that time! So good quality as well all the better, and sorry Nympho, no second hand for your kids? Sometimes beggars cannot be choosers!
I've been there and was grateful for everything x |

If it was needed, yes.
We were worried about money when we found out we were expecting our son but luckily my cousin had a little boy 6 months before so we inherited a lot of stuff and, in the end, barely had to buy anything.
There's no shame in 2nd hand and sometimes I don't see the need to buy new. - Take our cotbed for example. We could've spent £100's on a new one but ended up being offered one 2nd hand for £12... We stripped it down, anti-bacced it and (of course) just bought a new mattress.
In my eyes, the £100's we saved there will be better used towards his future. |

If I needed it I would say yes please, I'm very grateful, thank you.
If I didn't need it or couldn't use it I would politely say so, thanking them for the offer. If they needed help finding a new home for it, such as advertising it or help moving it, I'd offer to assist.
I recently got a new sofa but prior to that I was using a small, second hand one I bought for 99p on ebay. It was in good condition and I used it for a little over 2 years.
It's a bit tired now but I'm about to offer it for free on a site designed for that in case someone recently rehomed or with little money can use it to tide them over for a short time. |

If its something I need and good quality, then yes, and I am very grateful.
My son grows at a scary rate, and I have been exceptionally grateful to some of my friends passing on good quality, hardly used clothes that her boys have grown out of too. He did get new school uniform - and replacement uniform has been new already (onto 3rd set already for primary 1, hes 6 and wears 9-10 clothes) but for harder wearing items like jeans and jumpers, second hand does us fine - as it means he can get next etc that I cannot justify the speed he grows at - and we pass it on as well. |

Take it! Why not???
I restore furniture as a hobby. I love it!
I love antiques etc. They are all second/third/forth/gazillionth hand. Who cares?! If you like it. Get it.
My daughter has an absolutely beautiful rocking chair in her nursery. Is it brand new? No! They don't make them like that anymore... It's antique, and delicious and I love it. Who cares if someone has used it before. It adds character into a world of plain. |

I have no problem with second hand things. I buy vintage clothes myself and my dining room table and chairs were bought from an antique shop. The quality of the furniture is exceptional.
I would rather buy secondhand quality furniture than new Mdf crap from cheap furniture shops. |

I am no snob and in my early years whilst trying to make my own home whilst taking home a £400 a month salary, I would have been grateful for anything, I think some people lose sight of certain things, and my parents gave me a lot of second hand stuff if and when they could but seeing as my mum was abroad at the time, there was only so much an mfo box can take! |

The only thing I haven't been able to do so far, but wish I could, is second-hand clothes, (unless they're from my mum).
I don't know what the problem is. I'm too fat for vintage at the moment anyway but even in a nice vintage shop I think I'd struggle with the concept.
Charity shops that are chaotic with the clothes crammed onto a rail I certainly can't cope with. |

Second hand doesn't bother me in the slightest. We all had hand me down clothes as kids and our first flat was furnished from Mrs P's recently deaceased grandfather. Half our kids clothes , cot & pushchairs were from other family members.
Just give it a good clean and Bobs your uncle. |

I'm not a snob and don't have more money than sense. We often pass things between mums at the school for their kids. Why wouldn't you? Perfectly good usable stuff that costs a fortune brand new. There it's no shame in it and to those that look down their noses at it I wouldn't want to associate with. Snobbery at it's best. My kids miss out on nothing by having hand me downs and means I can spend more on the important things that kids will remember. |

Recently moved into place with my daughter and would be sleeping and sitting on the floor without the help of friends and family. I consider myself fortunate and pass decent stuff on if it's of use to anyone. Charity shops for clothes and furniture, why not? Bit not underwear or shoes
So yes I would |

The estate I grew up on parents would regularly give things they no longer needed to others and it didn't Just help everyone out moneywise, but it built up great community spirit that is sadly lacking in a lot of places today.
I think there Are obvious exceptions such as a lot of technology as it becomes obsolete so fast and underwear (unless you're into that kind of thing, Not my cup of tea but there's plenty on here who seem to hunt Just that)
Pride in one's self is essential, but pride is foolishness When taken too far. |

I love charity shops and vintage clothes shops, you just don't know what you will find.
I don't have any problem with wearing vintage clothes, in fact I like to wonder about the person and the era that the clothes came from. The only problem as such is laundering as due to the material and age, they may not withstand washing machines.
It isn't always about not being able to afford new, I choose and prefer older things, it's an individual taste.
In my house I have old fireplaces, they are beautiful, I have antique mirrors, and an antique blanket box which is,beautiful carved wood.

Happily snatch their hand off. If things are in good condition, are something you need that the other person doesn't I cant see a problem. I hate to see good things thrown away.
I have a lot of beautiful clothes that come from charity shops and I certainly wont wear anything that's less than good quality. |

Some are yes, but those also tend to be the ones that charge silly prices too.
Most in this area are pretty poor, looking more like jumble sales than shops, and one local one, for a large, national charity actually smells awful. |

Twickenham/ Richmond/ etc etc .. The ' posher' arears in London... Some amazing finds in the charity shops ... Local to me too if I got time to look. Do enjoy a good rummage! Am not too proud of 2nd hand stuff ... Had bits passed on from friends and Visa Versa... A lick if paint and a few sparkly knobs( ! ) and stuff like new... And everyone happy ... Am a bargin hunter too... Look after the pennies and the £'s look after themselves ... ( mrs ) |
